good PASSIVE 5 string under 1000$

i tried severall in the store. the olp, corts, fender mex deluxe, musicman sub, yamaha, godin.

the olp B string was ok..... can you reccomend me one ?

what about the mexfender 5 string for example ?

Passive 5s are pretty rare.

Not sure where you live, but I got my Warwick Corvette Standard 5 for around $900 new from the local GC. It's passive MEC J pups with an ash body. Outplayed anything in it's class I tried.

I love the tone of the corvette ash passive. Different tone from the Fender and the likes. very 'woody'.

I scored a MIA Fender Jazz 5 a couple of years ago for $425, but it was the one of maybe 10 or 12 w/a decent B string. It's passive(w/a very hot output)but that's kind of unusual it seems.

Do you want truly passive?

Lots of these suggestions have been passive pickups, but with an active preamp that requires a battery. Not my definition of a passive bass.

I'd jump on a (used) Reverend like one of these:

I bought both of mine for under $1k. One similar to the white one, but with maple board, recently sold on ebay for ~ $560. Totally passive, with a monster tone and hot pickups. People always love them at the GTGs. They oooze old school mojo.

FWIW, in terms of playability and tone, they're right up there with my Sadowsky.

My Skyline JO5 is a great bass. Passive Lindy Fralin p'ups, solid B string (35 inch scale).
I got mine for well under $1000 (used).
