Good Pre-amp / Power setup?

I'd recommend a BBE Bmax preamp with either a Carvin DCM1500 or a QSC RMX850. Very affordable and great sounding combinations.
Actually, I'm selling my BBE BMax-T (tube version) and my Carvin DCM1500 :D

If you're using and Eden 410 it'll really open up the more power you give it. I run my Aguilar GS410 with 900watts and it really sounds punchy and powerful.

One more suggestion, IF you eventually want to add another cab to the eden you already have, be it a 1x15, 2x10 or another 4x10, more than likely the QSC RMX850 WILL NOT be enough power for 2 cabs (in my opinion) then you would have to go out an buy another power amp. My suggestion would be to spend a little extra cash & buy a bigger amp, say the RMX1450, Carvin or whatever. The RMX1450 puts out 1400 watts at 4ohms bridged, that would be enough to run a pair of you Eden cabs. I figured I would put that in the mix just in case your also planning for the future.

If your planning on only your Eden cab for long term. Then the QSC RMX850 would be fine.

Not true. No amp runs at 2400 (or whatever) all the time. High wattage does not blow speakers up. You can run 1000 watts into a 100 watt cab - or vice versa. It's called head room. It allows you to have a reserve of power for transients, clarity, and over all tone, etc.

But to answer your question, you can use any cab more or less.

One of my previous setups was an Ampeg SVPCL (a really good sounding pre IMO)+ QSC RMX850. The RMX850 easily pushed an SVT 410HE (8 ohms) + an SVT 15E (8 ohms) daisy chained - running mono/ bridged (830 watts at 4 ohms). I eventually switched to a Stewart World 1.2 which I picked up on ebay for $400... at 11 lbs it was much easier on the back.

FOR ME, that World 1.2 at 11 lbs was a better choice since I really don't like carrying heavy gear & it has plenty of power. I have even run my Sansamp BDDI thorugh both of those power amps & it worked just fine... but the RBI has better tonal control then the pedal... I believe its got a dedicated mid control & I always struggled to find a good tonal balance with the pedal... for example, the mids were good, but the highs were harsh, or the highs were good but the mids were buried, etc. If you really wanted to go budget, you probably could just add a graphic eq & use your BDDI with the power amp.

You should have a bunch more watts than you need... to quote another TB'er:

'...it's not the power that you have, it's the power that you have left..."

headroom is important. With an eden 410 I would have a minimum of 1000 watts, Carvin makes some inexpensive pwramps.

I think that I paid less than $600 for my whole setup on the used market (including SKB roto and cables) and I have 1600 watts.


try looking at bassgear.com, I think that is where I picked up most of the stuff that resides in that rack.

One question I asked earlier that noone answered......

Will a Sansamp BDDI work as a pre amp?? or is the signal going to be strong enough?

I have the newer model with the "line/instrument" selector...

I think that's all I plan on using for a while......I run through the PA most of the time, I just need a bit more stage volume.

Yes. I also had a "mids issue" with direct recording using the BDDI. It could just be my bass or it could just be me, but one thing for sure is I could never get the exact sound I was looking for from the BDDI alone.

Just make sure the case is deep enough & I suggest an extra space or two for proper cooling.

19" is standard width for rack. They make racks for effects that are not as deep as the ones for amps, but its a pretty noticable difference. Just tell the saleman you need a 4U rack case for your power amp. That will give you 2 spaces for the amp and 2 empty spaces... but if you forsee yourself racking up more items in the future, get a bigger case.
