Good Pre-amp / Power setup?

4 space is what I was looking to get.

A question about the output connectors on the QSC......What is the other kind of connector besides the Speakon connector? And in order to bridge the power amp do you have to you use the other type of cable or can you use the Speakon?

in the specs it calls it ""Touch-proof" binding posts", which I'm not really sure what that is...

You can use a banana connector for the outputs, one if you do the bridge connection or two for stereo/parellel.

You can use the Speakon for bridged mono (Ch1 output), but it has to be wired for bridged mono. The touch proof binding post is for clamping the speaker cable leads directly to the output posts on the amp. The banana connector is more user friendly because its easier to just plug it in and unplug it as needed.

I use a banana (amp) to speakon (cab) and a short, heavy monster speaker cable to chain the second cab for 4ohms bridged (when needed, which is just about never).

I have the Avatar 212 and 210P 8ohm cabs. The 212 is plenty good alone bridged through my RMX1450. I'm using a SansampRBI pre and am very happy with my tone and more than satisfied with my power/headroom.

Thought of another question. When connecting a preamp and power amp what kind of cables should you use? if using the XLR connectors do i use regular mic cable and if using the 1/4" inputs do I use a instrument or speaker cable?

Depends on the outputs of the preamps. You would not want to connect the XLR out of the Pre to the poweramp, because that output is usually buffered so that it can be used to send a signal to a mixing board. If you are using a pre with a balanced 1/4" (TRS) output, you should use a 1/4'TRS to Male XLR cable, which is what I use to hook my Pearce BC1 to my QSC RMX850. If the preamp has an unbalanced 1/4" output, just use a standard 1/4" instrument cable. Use the shortest cables you can to make any connections. Check your owners manuals to determine if your pre outputs are balanced or not.

I don't think you need a pre/power rack for 300 - 350 watts. Get a nice head to push that 4X10 - like an Eden WT-550.

You might go ultra light. I just started using a Fodera Model 2000 pre into the effects return of my AI Focus (could also be done with the AI Focus SA power amp). This is a pretty awesome sounding combination. It's super fast and clean, and gives up bigger lows and highs than the Focus alone. With the Epifani UL110/UL112 setup, I'll be pushing 600 watts...into a 22lb and 30lb cab, respectively. 3.5lb amp and .5lb pre.

I'll come out with more power if I go the pre/power setup compared to that Eden head at about the same price, maybe less.


I take that back, a LOT less....
