Good Slap and Pop strings?

I just started the slap and pop technique! im just wondering what type of gauges i should get.

Hey there Jetsfan. I use med. gauge strings on everything. 45 - 105 (standard stuff you can find just about anywhere) I highly recommend Circle K strings. The thing with strings is that most ppl leave them on way past their life span. Circle K's stay "live" longer and are balanced better from string to string. I like their traditional .106 sets, but everyone has their one tastes.

I guess if it were me, I would stay away from light gauges for fear that you would break the "G" string if you "popped" too hard.

For that quintessential 80s slap/pop sound (Listen to some Mark King if you don't know what I mean), I like the Rotosound Funkmaster strings. However, these do go dead very quickly and if you are aggressive, they can break. Personally, I like the Rotosound Swing Bass 66 40-95 or 40-100s. They last a bit longer and won't break as easily. They also are a bit better for fingerstyle/pickstyle playing. I have also been very impressed with DR Lo-Rider strings (IMO, they were a bit better than the Rotosounds for droptuning, but with everything else, they were a tiny bit worse/close enough that it made no difference.) I also have been using the Ernie Ball Cobalt strings (40-95) and have been very impressed. However, I have had these on my bass for all of four days.

One thing is for sure, if you aren't buying from basstringsonline.com you are probably getting ripped off.

DR LoRiders, baby. The gauge is more of a personal preference.

As mentioned above, Bass Strings Online is the only place to buy bass strings. Great thing about Jason is that he has DR and a few other sets available as custom gauge sets, so you can build whatever set you want. Great for experimentation.

I'm gonna have to recommend DR Fat Beams.

Tons of bottom end and extremely pleasing high end, along with super easy to slap flexibility.

Personally when I slap I like a lighter gauge string... 40-100. But thats just me

i don't know about brands or gauges, but i prefer a steel roundwound for slapping and a flatwound for everything else.
