Good sounding cheap arsed fretless

Wow. So much good advice... I’m learning and getting confused at the same time! Thanks so much all.

So I know this is at the top of the price range I mentioned, but what do you all think of this, is it enough of a step up that it’s worth it? I play 5 string 35” scale basses with no problem. It’s a Czech Republic MTD: For Sale - MTD Beast fretless 5 string
And it’s local to me.

i have a bass assembled of warmoth parts that cost around the high end of your spectrum (got it used here)

i know its unlikely, but this thing is the best fretless i've ever owned. its insane. if you find something like that its worth looking into for sure.

I just bought a Squier VM Fretless P off the Classifieds here from DiabolusInMusic SOLD - Squier VM Fretless P - 7~ lbs, Seymour Duncans, Lots of work.

My new bass has made it to my local Post Office and I am going to fetch it tonight. Maybe I could give you some feedback once I have tried it.

Also, I guess you need to ask yourself which tone you are trying to cope?

Jaco (Jazz), Sting(P), Pino(Stingray), Garry Willis(Ibanez), etc...

Well, it looks great! But that hardly meets my definition of cheap. At 600, you have a LOT of options, but the TB Classified option is always the best. Good stuff on here from longtime users.

+1 on these. I bought an older B4FL on here (for only $350) and it is a really nice instrument. Get a newer one, because mine has the two-piece bridge (think Warwick) and it's a pain in the arse to adjust. The newer models have a conventional-type bridge.

I have an MTD kinsgston 5. The asymmetrical mtd neck is fantastic. Very good build, very comfortable body, balances great on a strap. I don't think you could go wrong with it, especially since it's local and you can confirm it feels good to ya. Imo, that bass smokes the squiers. And please, no one call me a prima dona for saying that. I got respect for them squiers too.

Edit: after looking closely, it's unlikely it is a factory fretless, and with the zero fret removed, if the original nut is acting as the only nut, just confirm that the intonation isn't too far off the lines that it would throw you off.

No secret, they do not have the fit and finish of most factory basses. That is the only negative I have to say on them. Not sure why my comment got you worked up so quickly. I suggest a stiff drink, a Xanax, or something in that vein.

I certainly am not disparaging the wish bass brand. That being said, I stand by my recommendation of the Warwick over anything else mentioned considering the OP's budget.
