Good Tube Amp Heads ?

For the money, IMHO, you'll get much better sound out of a Genz Benz than you would an Ampeg...just not that impressed with them compared to other tube amps...and you can likely find a used Streamliner 900 for in the neighborhood of 6-700 bucks...which leaves you a good chunk of cash for a cab...

While the SVT is a classic amp, a pair of YBA-3s through a couple of Ampeg 810s would be just as good, with more tube grind and less money.

B* is big enough to scour the web and catch any advertising.

I've found that you can negotiate pretty good prices off MAP for B* gear.

Got one more question, where abouts are Ampeg's now made ? Are there still some models made in the US ?????

The Heritage SVT-CL, 810e, and 410hlf are built in the US. The standard SVT-CL, SVT-VR, and Classic cabs are built in China. Personally, I think the Chinese heads sound just as good as the US heads that SLM made, and the cabs sound a lot better and are made with plywood instead of boogerwood like the SLM-made US cabs. The Heritage reigns supreme, though. Those Heritage 810e's sound just like the old flatback 810s of the 70's, long considered to be the best 810's ever.

a sunn 2000s is a great head, but i'm not sure if you can still get a pretty clean one for 1400 nowadays

I kid of course, they're amazing amps, but if you're paying $1400 I think you're getting a bit hosed. I've seen the prices steadily rising on eBay in the past couple years, and they aren't as cheap as they used to be, but $1400 is still way too much. I picked up my 2000s two years ago in near mint condition (never been serviced, original tubes, 2 prong, only a few nicks on the face plate) for $900, and just last week bought a 1200s in nearly the same condition for the same price (though I did have to pay shipping for that one). As long as you don't use eBay as your measuring stick, and cruise craigslist regularly, they can be had at far better prices.

Try adhuntr.com. That's what I use, it gives you a nation wide search, or you can narrow it down to regions.
