GOODBYE PHOTOBUCKET!

I have moved everything from Photobucket to Imgur. Eventually I may move them all to my own website, as sooner or later Imgur will implode too.

I have posted hundreds of images throughout Talkbass, all gone and most too old to update. I wouldn't have the time to update them anyway.

One column stated that Photobucket had essentially "broken the Internet". I agree.

Who has time to go back and re-do old posts?

Not I.

Heaven forbid people should have to pay for an internet service in today's world. It's unbelievable what we take for granted these days.

There is a thing in economics called "supply and demand" and the balance between these two parts of every transaction determine the price of goods and services. Photobucket went from using a business model that relied on advertisers for its revenue (which makes it virtually free for its users) to one where they user pays a periodic fee. Photobucket should understand that the service they provide can be easily duplicated by any other company that comes along with enough computer power and space to host large picture files. They decided to set their annual fees so high that the vast majority of users refuse to pay and immediately joined other sites.

That's exactly what I did. I would have gladly paid a more reasonable fee for the convenience of not having to update my links but I consider their price to be unreasonable. For the record, I NEVER use pirated software or steal services that I don't legally pay for, even though I know that it's easy to do so and there's no possibility of getting caught. As a musician, I understand that downloading music for free means that professional artists get screwed out of the money they deserve for their hard work and willingness to take risks in a difficult career. Yet, I understand why so many people steal music files, when the price that record companies set for their products is so often out of line with reason.

Photobucket seems to think that they're somehow indispensable and they can charge what they want. They are mistaken.
