GOSPEL BASS PLAYERS,STEP UP!

I personally love my Pedulla J2000 5-string. Of course I see a lot of Fenders but most of the high profile players I see are using-
1. MTD
2. Ken Smith
3. Peavey Cirrus

A few of you have mentioned Maurice Fitzgerald- I've seen him play a LOT of different basses. But most recently its been Fenders. I also heard that he got an endorsement with Washburn and Eden.

When I first read your tag line under your screen name, I figured you were a Fred Hammond fan. That's one of the refrains from "Let The Praise Begin". For anybody who cares, that song has a really tight thumpin' bass line. Marcus Miller would be proud of it if it were his :bassist: . And, btw - nice set of toys listed in your profile.

OH YEA! you are right about the tag, I took it from Fred Hammonds song :hyper: Terrance Palmer played bass for him on that, but now he is with New Breed. I no longer have my Smith 6string :bawl: or Warrior :crying: hey Mat, do you think a trade for my Alembic Rogue 5 for a Kensmith neck through five would be a fair trade? Is Terrance still playing that Tobias Basic 5 that he was playing when he was with Fred Hammond ? As far as basses go I was using a MTD 635,however I am playing a Fender QMT 5 (which I am truly in love with) and a Ken Smith MW 6,and for the Richard Smallwood,Kurt Carr and Byron Cage material a pre Pattitucci TRB 6. I must say that the QMT can truly cover it all especially for the John P.Kee material.I will use a SR5 on a few of the Steven Curtis Chapman tunes

,And I can relate because I was one of those players(not saying that I am the bomb)but I've been truly bless of late to have access to "REAL" nice equipment. I have real dear friend that's in this theater for right now due to personel problems but nontheless he can play with the best of them that's out there no matter who they are and he is doing it on a Squier Jazz 5 that is not in the best of shape but once the 1st note is played-Yo, ! it's on and "popp'en !

It's not a Cirrus,it is a Tobias Basic 5 just like the one I had owned for a couple of years ( I would like to own another one if I can find one) he also uses this bass with DFW Mass Choir.

I have never played Gospel but i have played Catholic litergical music and contempory Praise and Worship. Right now my Main bass is a Sadowsky 5 string through Ampeg Amplification ( B 100 R ). I have allso used an Epiphone Jack Casady and several Hofner Copy basses.

Yeah, I know he has a Tobias, but trust me....when I saw him last (3 or 4 years ago) he was playing a Cirrus. I'm fairly certain I even have a video tape of a concert where he was playing the Cirrus.

I am an urban gospel bassist as well. Right now I use a Carvin LB75 w/ two H50N pickups. In my opinion, the bass provides a wide range of tones, and is suitable for finger and slap styles.

However, I have a Fender American Deluxe Precision V bass on order. It should arrive on Friday. And, if the Lord bless, I will purchase a Fender American Deluxe Jazz V bass early next year.

Gospel bassist in training here... Right now I'm working with a Kingston 5, but I haven't started playing in church yet (gonna start next week).

I'd like to have a Roscoe LG-3005 or MTD 535 by Spring, Lord willing. Eventually I'd like to get my hands on a Smith. If I could have even one of those three, I'd be very happy... and if I could get two or even all three, then I'd be completely satisfied!

I play bass for my church's worship team. We do anything from old hyms to contemporary P&W. We also use a variety of musicians. For contemporary services we have a typical rock band configuration, but for the "liturgical services, we have a number of orchestral instruments. I need a bass that is versatile, and sits well in a mix of various instruments.

God deserves my best, that's why I play a Lakland.
(4-94 classic to be exact)

We play contempory and Southern Gospel. Right now I'm using a P-bass for everything. I've used a Reverend 4 a lot too. I should probably buy a 5-string to really do some of the songs justice. The southern gospel stuff in Eb just doesn't have to power it could have if I used a 5.

All of my money these days go into my bass building business so I'll probably be using the P-bass for a long time. It's a workhorse, it can handle anything.

Evening to all:

I play "quartet style" Gospel in a sanctified Baptist church. Band mix typically one or two guitars, keys, drums, and me ot the other fellow (also "older", as am I...) who plays when I can't be there because of other committments...I'm in the front line, singing and playing my heart out for the services and sometimes for revivals, etc.

My bass is an older Roscoe SKB-3006 ("spanish cedar" back, flamed maple top, pau ferro 'board, 3-band bartolini electronics and pups) into wireless (necessary evil--I'm all over the room and the rig is a good distance away from me much of the time...) into Symetrix squeeze>Kern IP-777. The signal gets split there. One half of the Kern's output goes into Bag End Elf-M processor, and from there the lows go into one half of a Crest FE-2401, and from there into a custom Bag End ELF compatible cabinet with 18" downstairs. The "highs" out of the ELF-M go through an Alesis RA-100 and from there into the 12" top speaker. It's a W A Y big sound, but not loud, if you get my drift, and completely articulate down to the low B and below...the other side goes from the Kern to a Rane DC-24 where I typically "lose" the below 75-100 hz stuff, from there into the other half of the big Crest amp and from there into an Eden 410 xlt; this side of the Crest is running about 1:00, and the volume then adjusted to taste and or to the room, depending on the size of the crowd.

That's what I use.

Why I do this, I expect you all know---and I'll witness as to why if anyone asks me. The musicianship at Church isn't anything close to that in my secular band, but---it's like apples and oranges, trying to compare the two. Much more uplifting; you get booted into the zone with everyone else and stay there for hours at a time...and besides, I know I'm doing good being there.

There's quite literally nothing like it for me, and it's a privilege and a blessing to be able to do it.
