Gospel Style

When sheet music states "play in a gospel style" what does that mean? I have only been playing for a year and more and more of our sheet music states this. I searched around a little bit but what does this mean for the bass player. I am working from the keyboard accompaniment basically doing the roots. I would like to do what I can to make things sound better!

I do not know what the gospel style initials. Sat in on some gospel music at our church. The director asked me to accent the 2 and 4 not the 1 and 3. See if that is part of it.

Hey bro, I dont think it has anything to do with the bass guitar, more of the overall feel of the piece. IMHO, more of a lead note.

My gutfeel says you're on the right track playing the roots, but you can go a lot further by playing triads & appregio's (implying knowledge of how chords are compiled - i.e. majors, minors, sus, dim, 7ths, 6ths, 5ths etc.).

Read the reaction of your band members - specially the leader. That will tell you where you can go from there. I've got an idea they'll love it...

groovy tune! Yeah just put some "stank" on how you flow the notes together. I think that's the best way I can state it without actually playing it..lol
