Got my Alien Ears

The other day. I bought the "Quints" five driver model & all I can tell you is, wow what a difference. I'd been jacking around with many bud type ears & finally bit the bullet & dropped the cash. These things are potent across the entire spectrum which was of high importance to me since I sing as well as play.

I did the molds myself (with a friend) using their kit & video. It really couldn't have been easier. The hardest part was waiting for them to arrive after sending the molds in.

I'm using them with an Audio-Technica M3 system & while I've only had them a couple of days, I can say this is going make my life a lot easier in terms of stage noise & playing/singing.

What were you using for in-ears before? Not to be Debbie Downer, but I've use custom-molded ears from single drivers to triples, and once you pass 2 drivers the difference is less and less noticeable. If you went from single to 5, I have a feeling you would've been just as ecstatic with 3 or even 2 drivers and had at least $200 more left in your wallet! I sing, play bass, acoustic and electric guitars, so full sound was just as important to me and I've been completely happy with triples and even duals.

I've heard great things about Alien Ears, but never tried them myself. I've been using a couple different Fidelity Customs sets for 4 years or so, and a set from Hearyourself.com for a year or two before that.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall that. I noticed their single driver ears had the same name as the ones I used in the past.

Edit: Yeah, definitely is as I see Andre is the owner. Great guy and great customer service. I bought back in the days when he was basically just selling with Ebay Buy it Now listings.

While the freq rating is listed at 60mhz to 13khz, it does pass audio at freq's higher and lower, it's just that they drop off quite a bit. What you are missing is the little sweet harmonics from the crash cymbal type thing as opposed to not hearing something real crucial to the performance.

I've been using the M2 for a little while and have been fine with the top end since day one. I can always dial a little extra sizzle via the 31band on the board and likewise, I can always kick up the 45mhz on the bottom. My only wish is that the belt pack for the M2 system could use a bigger amplifier. I get the level I need, but I'd really like to have more headroom with the buds. Kinda like using a QSC GX amp when you really want to be hearing QSC PLX. Good sound, just a touch "squishy" in the low end.
