Got my first Dingwall (now with pics!)

I can only confirm that Sheldon NEVER does things at a drop of a hat. He takes pride in his work and he values his customers. IIRC with the introduction of the Mach II pickups (esp the 4L model), the BluEQube offered similar tones to those produced by the new pickups and switching scheme, so the BluEQube became obsolete

AFAIK it's FD-3 and Mach II pickups on the AB I now (Sheldon needs to confirm this)

I want to talk about the fanned frets briefly. I've been playing 30" scale basses only for several years now so I was somewhat nervous about buying a 37"-34" bass having never played one. In fact the only trouble have had is very high up on the neck where the fanning is extreme and I've missed a fret by one position, but I am slowly overcoming my incompetence. :p So, if anyone is intimidated in anyway about fanned frets, don't be, they're fantastic. I actually had more trouble with the B string than the frets :)

It's also a fantastic sounding bass, certainly helped by the length of the strings. It's fantastic.

It looks great too and to prove it here are some photos. I apologise for the lack of quality - the colour isn't like that in real life has more of a green tint in the middle.

We must be on almost the same schedule. I got my first Dingwall, and a model identical to yours, two weeks ago. Mine must have been in stock at BC for a while, because it doesn't have the inlays and does have the bluEQ switch, which I find next to useless. The rest of the bass is so great though, it doesn't bother me in the least. I'm finding the fanned frets absolutely no problem whatsoever. The only time I've really even noticed them is playing in the first position on the B or E strings.

You've got my attention. New switching scheme? I'm struggling here - I believe I've got FD3s and the BluEQube in mine, and its pretty hard to image a better sounding passive bass.

An, uncluebalsamic, I really like your take on Italian dressing. The bass is gorgeous, too. A camera just kept capture the depth of the flame top, though. Would love to see that finish up close.

By "switching scheme" I mean the way the Mach II coils are connected between them. They produce a tone that is similar to the use of the BluEQube, thus the BluEQube termination (probably)

As far as Sheldon's finishes, they are by far better in real life

These forums are great but also another solid one on the Dingwall site. As far as the differences in general terms -

ABI - Passive - Basic design/woods
ABII - Active - a few wood options but basic
Z - Active - Custom design wood specs and think different pickups

As far as money goes..to each his own. Some couldn't fathom spending that kind of dough..Others think its priceless..

So.....in a nutshell their great basses and I still miss my ABI.. I listen to old clips from church from time to time and it just kills anything I play..
