Got my first speeding ticket tonight :(

Man, I've done some pretty dumb things in a car. I wouldn't even go so far as to say you deserved the ticket, that's another story. But generally speaking, going ~20mph will very often get you a ticket. On some highways I take, you can be ticketed for going 10 over. I was once given a warning for 13 over on 287, everyone I know who has been pulled over for 15+ has been ticketed.

Really, you shouldn't ever go more than 10mph over if you don't want to risk getting a ticket. Anything above 15mph over puts you in 'very very likely to get a ticket' territory, and when you're regularly doing 20+mph over, you're almost in 'reckless driving' territory (25+). Seeing as not all radars/speedometers are 100% accurate, you don't want to chance it. Better that you get a relatively minor ticket now rather than reckless down the road.

If you're going to choose to speed, you have to resign yourself to the fact that you will get some "fast driving awards" from time to time. I get one about every 2-3 years. I just get them dismissed and go about my business.

They should IMO adjust the speed limits a bit to cope with the "recent" changes in technology....

Speed limits are more about human response times and how the body reacts to impact with a large piece of metal. Until the death rate on the roads is down to zero, I think that they should be left as they are.

Well i've traveled that hwy 69 between Toronto
and Sudbury for over twenty years for work,there
are passing lanes about every 10-20 kms,you should
have just waited for a passing lane..

TIP:
While waiting for a pass lane, let the car in front of you
be your scout,it can work wonders against speeding,
moose,deer,road conditions and the like...slowdown

The thing is that one of those lanes had ended less than a kilometer before, then the car slowed down to approx 85kph. I was the third car to pass him, and one more behind me, but the cop decided to pull me over of the four, and I seriously doubt I was able to hit 122kph in that amount of time. My car is sloooooow. This was about 10 kms south of the French River bridge.

Zero? Until you take humans totally out of the equation, no silly law will get you anywhere near zero.....

I really doubt it on your first speeding ticket. I think you need to be caught racing (50kph over) to affect your insurance.

Well that's good news, I don't think I can afford it to go up much, I still have to pay the 232$ ticket

My point was that as long as the death-toll is non-zero, the benefits gained from reducing speed limits are substantial, whereas the benefit gained from increasing them is marginal, at best.

Well that's good news, I don't think I can afford it to go up much, I still have to pay the 232$ ticket

$232? That's nothing. My first was a $300 fine, $100 in court costs, and we bumped it up to a heftier fine so points wouldn't hit my license. Those 5 points would've cost me thousands more than the $100 from the court, so I consider myself lucky.

It's true. But wouldn't it be nice if people could be trusted to assess their situation and drive at a safe speed and distance? Then we could get rid of speed limits altogether.

See here's the thing,you were downright unlucky,
back of your ticket says you have three options
considering your age (INS)and whether or not your
still on a graduated license maybe your best bet is to plead guilty with an Explanation option,go to court explain the
circumstances,it may be reduced to a level that does not
include loosing points (most important)..

considering your age (INS)and whether or not your
still on a graduated license maybe your best bet is to plead guilty with an Explanation option,go to court explain the
circumstances,it may be reduced to a level that does not

Two things attend court,if its favorable
apply for G right away..

French river is part of the Sudbury district
so court will be in Sudbury,check with OPP..

edit:Killarney only has Sturgeons and man size
Muskies no court house.

Unless the laws are really different where you are, the speed limit = the maximum speed you are legally allowed to drive. It doesn't mean the maximum speed you are allowed to drive unless you need to exceed it by over 33% to get past someone.

Thing is, notice I was never pissed off about getting the ticket---I was definitely guilty, I just didn't want it to hit my record and have insurance go up by $1,800 every 6 months. And it didn't!
