put the money into strings. planet pickup. fdeck black box. take what's left and take the little lady out to her fav restuarant ... twice.

Strings, a good pickup (no idea since I dont use them) ANd a blond amp (something like that, but they are GREAT!)
How about saving it?
I keep a little slush fund for replacement strings, broken pickup replacement, freak repairs, etc.
Doesn't hurt so much when those things come up.

What was I saying? I'd blame it on alcohol but I was sober. Maybe I need to start drinking heavily.
In all seriousness though. When one of those unexpected repairs pop up they can be quite a hit in the pocketbook. I had to get a neck re-set once and while the doctor cut a nice deal on the repair it still hurt. Ever since then I keep this slush fund thing.

I presume by pedals you meant pre-amp / eq, rather than an effects box?
In which case get a Fishman Pro-Eq Platinum Bass. Marvelous piece of kit, especially if, as your name suggests, you're going to be slapping out some volume.
Some players do use effects of course. I used to mess about doing home recordings mixing effected double bass with electronics. I used a Zoom multi effects unit. Lots of fun.
