Got to see Roger Waters perform live last night

Notice I didn't say play bass live...he did for three songs, one of which Gus Seyffert was also still playing bass.
But that said, good show, awesome experience to finally get to see him. Not a fan of the "in the round" setup, which wasn't round at all but a cross shaped stage. I was on the floor right at the end of the walkway where he came on and offstage. He sang one entire song on our stage, Sheep to end the first set, and then part of Happiest Days of our Lives and In The Flesh? by us, and that's it. Rest of the show he was mostly at the middle two stage offshoots. And when he was playing bass (on Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pt 6-9, Money and Us and Them) he stayed up on the risen middle section of the stage between the other band members.

Have fun! Re-reading, it sounds like most of my post was complaining, but it really was a great show and I enjoyed it a lot.

Why does he only play three songs on bass?

Because he really doesn't like the instrument and considers himself more of an acoustic guitar player.

He once famously said in an old interview that he only played bass in the first place because they desperately needed a bass player and his only consolation was that they didn't force him to play the drums.

Once he left Pink Floyd and started his own band, he had the freedom to go back to playing guitar and stick the chore of churning out bass notes to hired guns.

I think the only reason he deigns to play bass on even 3 songs is because it's the bare minimum he can get away with and still satisfy his fans who know him as the legendary bassist of Pink Floyd.

Just to be clear, this is not a criticism of Roger Waters' bass playing talent or of his attitude regarding the instrument. He's made it very clear during many interviews that his priorities lie in other areas of musicianship, and as a fan of his, I accept that attitude at face value.

I saw him a couple of years ago here in Lima, I thought it was a very good show and the sound was good, he only played bass on a few tunes at that show too. He must have flown in the same day as me as people were making a commotion about someone at the airport, she's not shy at all and she ran up and got a picture with him having no idea who he was . She's Peruvian and Salsa is her music.
