I have blown the power section on my beloved SWR Bass 750.. Back to the drawing board. After 12 years of bliss filled tone and power, I have to figure out a replacement system. I play in a Jam Band. 14 years now. I play a prototype Modulus Bassstar 5 string with Bart's. I am currently running a Rane PE15 - SWR Bass 750 - Schroeder (Original series) Mini 12(no horn), Schroeder 1212 (original series) and a SWR Bass Monitor 12.. 2.67Ohms at 850w.. My band has 3 guitards all playing 85w tube combo's and I have 2 drummers...
I am kind of a snob and admit it freely. Quality Pro gear..
Since there are not many options for an amp that runs at 2Ohms, I am looking at running 4Ohms. I need power. I need quality, clean power. I need a modern tone with vintage warmth. I need my SWR/Schroeder, but I can't have it..
I would appreciate anyones help with amp/cab suggestions.. I don't have a budget, since I have no money, but will spend what I have to.

Why dont you look into one of the Class D power amps like the Pevey or Crown? They are relatively inexpensive and can push 2 bridged or you can split the channels for each cab. Not to mention, they will save you about 20lbs.

If you are looking for a whole new rig, I just got a Demeter VTB-201 with internal class D power amp and a Bergantino CN212. It MOST DEFINATELY does the 'modern tone with vintage warmth' you mentioned. I couldnt be happier, but it sounds like you might need a little more volume.

1-2x12 cabinet won't work for me.. I am running my SWR Bass monitor to the drummer so we don't ever need to put bass through the monitors. Comes in handy at 90% of our gigs. I am thinking something of a 4x12 or 6x10 type of cabinet or something like that. I think I would like the height, since my stage volume is mostly for my own ears/monitor volume. The Demeter pre does look like a nice unit though.
My hardest thing (I must apologize) is that I have loved my sound for so long, I don't know how to change it

Why not have the SWR repaired and change to more sensitive speakers?

Since I have all ready had my power section replaced on my SWR just about 1 year ago, I think that the overall amp is not doing well.. I intend on repairing it, but I think for my main rig, I am going to have to find something new to replace it.

Always possible you got lousy replacement transistors, or that your tech didn't quite nail down the problem 100% the first time (or maybe even incorrectly installed the replacements). If you have the option of a second opinion in your area, you might want to exercise that at this point before you throw down a bunch of money for a repair. (edit: in the sense of "second opinion on the quality of the last repair job", not so much whether the amp is dead, I'm guessing you can tell that by now)

I am working on getting in touch with another amp guy just in case it was just a bad repair or bad choice of replacement parts. Quality above anything else. When it comes to my gear, nothing else will do. Yes, I am having another repair place work on fixing my current amp. Still looking to get something else though. Unfortunately, there is no way to walk into any store near me (50 miles) that will carry any higher end quality equipment like the SWR, Berg, Demeter and so on

I pick the one I like the sound of best. For something as major as that I have to hear it for myself - I won't just trust the opinions of people on the internet.

Have you considered a Hartke Kilo amp ? It is a dual channel amp that puts out 500W into 2Ω per channel or 1000W into 4Ω in bridged mode. It also has a balance knob to control the relative volume between the channels. It could power all of the cabinets you have if you split them between the channels. They also have a LH1000 amp with similar specs and much simpler controls (no graphical EQ, overdrive, or compressor.)

The Thunderfunk 800 runs at 2 Ohms. I run mine through a Schroeder 212PL and add in a Schroeder 115PL on occasion. It may kill you non-existing budget, but for quality, clean power, modern tone, and warmth, the combination of Thunderfunk/Schroeder works very well IMO.

If this is the second time you have blown the output transistors on the SWR, maybe there is something wrong inside one of your cabs causing a short, or maybe a broken or frayed speaker wire, etc...

i know from owning one that the fender "PRO" bass amp heads ran at 2 ohms. they are a little rare but from what i understand they were basically the same as the swr redhead, that's what i read somewhere anyway. great amps. i really liked mine but i eventually found something else that i liked better so it had to go. of course there is always tubes. the ampeg svt runs at 2 ohms. the fender tb 600 and 1200 run at 2 ohms.

and there is a swr powerhouse 750 on GC used right now.

My old Peavey Firebass 700 was 700w @ 2ohms. Used to do gigs with a guitarist who brought 3 (THREE!) Marshalls AND a Laney to the gig, and I'd set up with my head, a 4ohm 2x10 cab w/horn, and a 4ohm 1x15. Who has two thumbs and got asked to turn his bass down all the time? THIS guy...:cool:

...but you're a professed gear snob. Probably not for you then...

That is a great deal on that Bass 750. I bought a second one yesterday from GC. Got it for $300... Could a bad speaker cable cause my power section to blow?? I know it can trip the fuse, but did not know it would blow the power section. Also, my speaker fuse is not blown, the power fuse is. Oh, and I really like the Thunderfunk's, but they look like they have changed recently. They were 750's now 800's.. The real deal breaker with TF is they don't come with a power cable:bawl:(jk)

No.

If the speaker fuse was taking too long to open, then yes a short on the speaker output could damage/burn up the output transistors, but it would not likely burn the power fuse. It would still turn on and light up, just no output.

If it is your power fuse burning, then there is almost certainly something wrong inside the amp.
