I'll bet it's not the bridge. Snug up the bridge and neck screws and see if that helps, before you buy a bridge.

Strange, Warmoth don't seem to carry the Gotoh 206 any more. Wonder why?
I'm really very happy with the looks, sound and ease of adjustability (is that a real word?). Aside from the price, I didn't want to pick up the alleged brightness of a BadAss II. I was really just after a bit more sustain and, to be honest, the bent-metals just looked cheap.
I'd always wanted a Precision for that deep, low, almost "upright" sound.
Uh, you meant to say "Jazz Bass," right?![]()

Engine207, if you want a second 201 for your J, PM me and I'll send you one of mine gratis.
No, I meant Precision. Do you have a different experience with Fender tone?
Yes. My Jazz is a...well, a Jazz. I use my P-bass mostly for slap. That's it's modus operandi, IMO.
I just never heard a P-bass characterized as that "deep. almost upright sound." As far as I know, that's never been its raison d'etre.
I've tried many bridges but I keep going back to the '62 RI style bridge with the serrated saddles for P and Js with 5 mounting screws and my DIY builds.

Interesting...the old Motown sound made popular by James Jamerson was all Fender Precision.
