Okay, It's 1976, I'm a 14 year old bass player in a band with all 18 &19 year olds. My brother,the drummer was trying to come up with a new band name. My logical mind told me to look in the dictionary. The first interesting name I came upon was" FAUN". A greek mythology man/beast hybrid. The older guys in the band thought it was cool. The next word I came upon was "NIRVANA". The guys asked what the meaning was and I replied "heaven" They all agreed it sounded too gay. I still thought it was such an original name that I doodled "Nirvana" on the outside of my school folders in defiance of their rejection. Obviously, we may not have been destined for greatness but, who knows. The moral of the story, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to write -off the ideas of the "Squirt" in the band. Anyone else ever come up with a Great Name before it's time??

Great Band Names Shot Down Before Their Time

This wasn't me but a friend of mine was in a band called 'The Killers' (named after the Iron Maiden album) and they managed to get a gig at a pub and made up some posters, but when they went to put the posters up the week before, the manager / publican apparently refused to have a band playing at his pub called 'The Killers'... so the band changed their name to 'Powerslave'..... they played a couple of gigs then split up
