Another loss in the musician community. This one hit close to home. Ken was the drummer in my first "real" band. He wasn't "famous" or anything, but he could have hung with a lot of the big time players. The band was called Seth (named after Ken's cat!). This band, and Ken in particular, taught me just about everything I know about being a musician and a contributing member of the rhythm section. Playing with Ken spoiled me for other drummers. He was one of the best if not THE best drummer I've ever performed with. In the short time I played with Seth (less than 2 years) they took a raw, amateur bassist and led me down the creative path to being a musical contributor. I credit Ken with teaching me how to lock in and groove with a drummer. I've always felt being the "weakest link" in a band was the best place to start. That way you get pulled up by their talent. Ken took a man's share of that load and I'm a better musician for it. God rest your soul, Ken and jam with the other greats that preceded you.

Sorry for your lost, Brother. Dedicate your next gig in his honor. Tell that story, and do a tune you did with him.

We were a very good band. Our originals were truly original. It was unfortunate that I had to move back home after college and basically kill the band. As I played in other bands, I began to realize what an outstanding drummer he was, and how few and far between they are. It took me years to realize what I had and by then, it was gone. Cigarettes suck...

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. My condolences to his family and friends. I too lost a friend and a band mate about 20 years ago to AIDS. Great guy, great talent and we all loved him.
