I always love when I find a great bassist that I've never heard of. Some examples of these lesser known bassists that I've found are Moto Fukushima from House of Waters, and Charlie Colin from Train's first three albums. What lesser known bassists have you found that really kill it?

Great Obscure Bassists?

Bruce Waibel played on two Gregg Allman albums - I'm no angel & Just before the bullets fly. I saw them live 4 or 5 times and Bruce absolutely killed it. In the earlier days before the Im no angel album came out, the band would come back from intermission 1 at a time, starting with the percussionist, then drummer, then bass, etc. Bruce would lay down a killer solo over the drums. He had a very laid back stage presence, but his playing was anything but.
Another huge favorite of mine is Tommy Cathy, who played for the Christian group Degarmo & Key. He is a local Memphis favorite who played with many others but during his time with D&K he played some of the best song serving lines I've ever heard. Never boring.

My answer to this oft-asked question is John Klingberg. He played on a couple Van Morrison albums, most notably the Moondance album. His basslines are a constant source of inspiration to me.
Bugsy Maugh who played with the Paul Butterfield Band in the late 60s; both a strong bassist and vocalist.

Anything with Ephron on it is sponge-worthy.
