I am in this band that has a terrific singer, and we are looking to add some songs. She sings in D or E. I know, any song can be transposed, but would like some thoughts on originals in those keys. Being a music moron, I cannot identify songs as such. We are really good at Free's all right now, hit me with your best shot, beast of burden, what I like about you and whole lotta love. Any suggestions along these lines? Thanks much.

She not only prefers to sing in D, she prefers to sing through JBL JRX125's.
it doesn't really work that way; songs can have high or low vocal ranges regardless of key.
"spirit of the radio" and "i love rock and roll" are both in E, after all.
(besides, it's good to not play multiple songs in a row that are the same key.)
Why don't people understand this.... knowing the key of the song tells you VERY little about how high or low it is. A song can be in the low range of a key the high range of a key or have a huge range within the key.
Chick version of Sweet Child of Mine, money in the bank. Just the lyrics, not the sappy acoustic backing!

I was invited to help on this project. The Leader wanted to put almost everything in the same key to make it simpler for everybody. I found it VERY fatiguing.
