We’ve been in Helena Montana for a few days, working our way to the Columbia river valley and Astoria, OR. Heard a radio ad for a concert by this Colorado roots/bluegrass/old time 5-piece band. Simply a great show by a really talented group of musicians.
The bassist is Bradley Morse. He holds dual degrees in classical and jazz bass studies. Extremely tasteful playing, with excellent fills, passing phrases and solos from time to time. Played a little arco from time to time. The band’s set list included straight ahead bluegrass, interpretations of a few pop numbers and old time tunes. He handled it all.
The best part for me is that he didn’t rely on mind-numbing “1-5” thumping, nor did he slap. Not once. Really great style IMHO. Go hear them if you get a chance.
For our gear heads: fully carved Shen blending a Realist Lifeline and DPA4099 through a Felix.
