When you are hanging by your hands from a mountain ledge and can let go, not thinking of life or death, then you will have true freedom. You can see the wooden dog eating steel and *****ing fire. You can shake hands with the hairy-shelled turtle and rabbit with horns. You can learn to play the flute that has no holes. But where does the sound of the flute come from?

Its unfortunate that the ADD-ridden nature of today's America often cannot contemplate simple wisdoms of the East. I agree that it all seems pretty esoteric at first, but it requires that you let go of your ego and channel the meaning intuitively. In fact, the same worked for me in reading the Bible, which by the way is also filled with plenty of spiritual mumbo-jumbo. Try reading the Upanishads or the Tao Te Ching before judging.
