Long story short, i'm a few months into my bass journey... my current punk-desert/stoner rock band brought me on in an emergency capacity, and I thought it would be fun. I played a ton of electric blues (w/ occasional stabs at jazz) as a guitarist for 20+ yrs, so I figured i'd definitely be able to do the bare minimum and be fine...
Turns out there are things about bass that suit me a lot more than guitar... and now that i've played bass for a little bit i also find my guitar playing has gotten much, much smarter...
I just love the space that the bass occupies, extending both the melody and the rhythmic parts at the same time. I'm studying bass lines and trying to review/renew my theory knowledge. Also, the sound of tube-amplified bass that is properly dialed in, it's just the best. i admit to being a huge gear nerd, whelp...
My favorite bassists: Mike Mills, Lou Barlow, John Entwistle, Robert DeLeo, Noel Redding. i just discovered tina weymouth. i'm embarrassed to say that i didn't really know who billy Cox was until recently.......
