My name is Tom. Between 2003 and 20015, I drummed/bandlead/managed/produced for a caped,masked, Funk/soul/rap legend known as Blowfly aka Clarence Reid. We toured hundreds of dates in north america, a dip into costa rica, two full tours of australia, and three european tours. We played lots of dives, plenty of nice joints and a few smatterings of Arenas and
festivals. Like every damn act between 2005-2010 - we had a documentary made on us that we should have turned down In 2013 we managed to play the gathering of the juggalos and the MOMA PS1 within a few months. We dropped 5 albums, and there's a posthumous picture disc coming out on record store day on Friday.
After Clarence passed last January, I started a small label which recently released our first single. I'm keeping busy. I have fallen in love with the bass in my mid 40s. It may be a bit Quixotic to switch instruments after 34 years, but I am enjoying the process, if not the wrist pain.
I am playing a 1986 MIJ Fender Power Jazz Bass Special with a replacement Mighty Mite P Bass neck. I love the way it sounds on our single ( i produced it and had my ringer play it) but I am thinking about getting something with a thinner neck or a shorter scale so I can build my chops with a fewer stretches.
I've learned a lot lurking on the forums. If ya'll ever need management/ booking/touring tips - I'd be happy to return the favor.
