Hello everyone!
I have been lurking about for several weeks getting a feel for the community and the level of discussion and I can only say, "WOW". The quality of people, and information is second to none, I am a member on several other forums on different subjects and I can say in my limited experience everyone here is pretty "top notch".
I'm an older player, even though I don't consider myself "old" (do any of us?). I've been playing guitar since college so...lets just say a few decades. Anyway, I have been interested in the bass for a few years now but never took the plunge until one day at my local brick and mortar music shop there sat a sweet little Music Man Sterling. Hmmm, I says to myself... I had a couple of pieces in the shop on consignment so I made a deal with the shop owner and we swapped even up.
That is how the journey started...now I have a Fender Precision Deluxe, a PJB BG-120 Combo Amplifier and a Mesa Bass-800D on order. Apparently, I'm out of control.
I have jumped in with both feet on learning the Bass, what a cool and different instrument compared to what I thought it would be. I now listen to music I've heard for years and subconsciously pick out the bass lines. To be honest I'm stunned that I never noticed how important the bass was to many of my favorite songs.
I'm a big Roxy Music/ Bryan Ferry fan and I was aware that Alan Spenner, Gary Tibbs, Neal Jason, and John Wetton had played on much of the music but also got turned on to Guy Pratt, Jerry Mehan, Mark Smith, and John Gustafson (maker of the killer "Love Is The Drug" bass line).
All I can say is, I feel (musically) like a kid again... all I want to do is pick up the bass and play, and try to improve a little bit every day. I'm hooked and I have to say this community is a valuable asset to me now, and into the future.
