- Full disclosure, I'm a certified Fender technician working in a music store that carries Fender, Yamaha, and Ibanez products among others.
The Bill Dickens model has a pretty thick finish on the neck, which makes it a tad bit tackier than an oiled or raw neck. I believe the GT-7 has an oil finished neck, could be wrong though.
My GTBD-7 has much thinner finish than any of my basses (except my no-finish Steinberger). It's a satin finish, and I don't find it tacky in any definition of the word. Slick as a whistle and easy to move around on.
MNAirhead, upgrade. You won't regret it. The pull-knob sub-boost alone is worth it, IMO.
