Watch almost any guitarist/bassist when they play, especially when they solo. Cliff Burton and Angus Young are 2 very good examples, and they wouldn't be as interesting to watch when they play if they didnt make funny faces to connect with the music.

Grr. How do you stop yourself from making weird faces?

those are minimal, i make worse faces while playing, even when playing in an orchestra. my whole section does at orchestra. let it flow man.
I usually have my mouth hanging open while playing drums, but while playing bass I look like I'm grinding my teeth and holding my breath.
