Looking for a little feedback on the design. The orange is curly redwood so I hate to cover it up, but I think the guard is an important design element for this body. Whattaya think??

Guard or no guard?

I'd have to see the actual figuring of the wood to decide. But shape-wise the pickguard seems to make the whole design "flow" better.
Here's the Ebay pic when the seller put some naptha or something on it to show the grain and below is a pic of the actual bare top the way it is right now.
Originally I thought it looked better to use the guard, but after seeing the wood, I definitely have to agree with no guard. If it were solid orange (like your rendering), then I think you'd need it, but with figured tops I think they look better without.
Yeah, Mastercam is a good CAD program but it's not really good for rendering. The orange is just the best approximation out of the choices I had. Most of the stuff I work on is in blue or green or grey, I was just trying color this up to visualize it a bit better.

I hope you don't mind my doing this, and please don't be offended....but....IMO the reason that the pickguard is important to the overall design is because without it, the body looks just a bit "fat". With the pickguard it looks darn near perfect. I think that if you are going to go "sans pickguard", you should bring in the waist just a touch more, and it lends itself to a bit sleeker look. The difference is subtle, but it definitely makes a difference.
I hope you don't mind, but I used your drawing to illustrate my point. The upper drawing is the "modified" one, where I took in the waist just a bit. It still looks like it did, just a bit sleeker and doesn't require the pickguard. The bottom drawing is the original version.

No offense at all, that's very interesting. I see the difference right away and it's actually pretty surprising. As you can see in the build thread (sig link) I'm pretty far along to make a change like that but it's not entirely too late. That change may be worth the extra work involved.

Now I'm going to have to think about this one a while.
It's a "tiny change", but as you well know, a tiny change can really alter the look of the finished bass.
BTW - your design is one of the best I've seen on a new bass - great blend of vintage and modern.
Invalid Link Removed makes a guitar of "similar" design, but I really like the additional slant/lean of yours better....it looks WAY more sleek.
