I definitely dig Guild basses. I came very close to pulling the trigger on a Pilot 5 string back in the day. And if I can ever find a decent deal on a Guild B-30E? I would absolutely snatch one up! In the past couple of years I've tried out a couple of M-85 basses, too. And I really liked the feel and tone. If money were no object? I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

+1 on the M-85. I have one and love it. Great build quality, playability and tone.

Here's my '78 B-301. If I was playing in an all rock/metal band this would be my first choice as the tone can cut through just about anything.

I played a Guild bass for a few years. The thing that caught my attention was the fact that it was so much louder than my other basses. It really had some outstanding pick ups.

I'm very good friends with the late Mr. King's son- who is an extreme kung-fu-badass world-class drummer- and model a good deal of my playing after him.

At some point, we are going to pull out his old basses, set them up to his specs and record some grooves to sell to hip-hop producers!

I've seen the Starfire being mentioned here quit often. I've only ever owned a Pilot back in the day.
But I've played their acoustic guitars and they are rather sweet, also seem to hold a decent retail
value.

I've tried a 70s Guild 3B01 I believe. Love it. Other than Gibson basses. They are one of my wanted basses.

Always seemed to me that the Pilot was among the more popular non-Fender types in its day. It has a good look and has graced many bigtime stages. I particularly recall Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees playing one.

I love 'em. I don't have any Guild basses anymore, I only kept is my F50 from '77 or so. Unbelievable instrument.

The best bass I've ever owned was a 67 Starfire I, which I stupidly sold in the mid 70s. Wanted another one but never found one at the price point I could afford in the olden days.

Then came the release of the Newark Starfire I and I immediately bought one. Also have a JS II that somebody destroyed everything but the electronics on so I rebuilt it and a Guild B4CE-NT acoustic. All very good basses.

I feel like the Darkstar pup has left more of an effect on the bass world (especially amongst boutique bass manufacturers) than any sole bass they ever produced. Not to say that's a bad thing at all! I've just always seen Guild as a mini Gibson, and from what I'm seeing in these pictures (beautiful collections, by the way) their basses kinda look like Norlin-era designs
