Guilty Pleasures

So TB in my group of friends we pretty much have the same taste in music. Like Miles Davis, Jaco and some hardcore punk bands. It appears that because I really like Sleater-Kinney I am automatically the scapegoat in the group. I'm the guy with the "weird" taste in music. So TB what bands do you like that are "weird" to your peers.

I've played in R&B bands, currently playing gospel in a P&W band, mostly contemporary but I also listen to Salegy which my peers find hard to comprehend. I dunno, I tell them they're missing out on some nice stuff that's just not run of the mill.

I am very proud to admit that I absolutely love Take That. To the extent that even when I went to see them - alone - I was more blown away by their wonderful harmonies than the MILF-fest that surrounded me.

My 20-year old self would punch me in the throat and die of shame.

Neil Fallon's beard is going to get you for admitting to this!

:p

I absolutely love ABBA.

Well I enjoy Ke$ha and 2 Taylor Swift songs if that's what you are looking for. I feel kinda guilty when I bump A Tribe Called Quest or Jurassic 5 just because of how white I am. You can also add Sara Bareilles and Colbie Callait to this list. But NEVER Beyoncé, I never feel guilty when listening to her.

The Monkees, Bread, Steely Dan, Carpenters are the first that spring to mind but I'm sure there's many more. One man's pleasure is another man's poison. Just so happens that I get pleasure from almost all of it.

Those are all great bands; no guilt in that

For me...fellow musicians have a hard time with the fact that I like Maroon 5. EDIT: and more recently, Beyonce. After "Love on Top," I am officially a fan. My non-muso friends (you know, the ones who aren't "enlightened" enough :p) call Bad Brains, Fishbone, Trisha Yearwood, and all old school Ska my "weird music."

Old school maroon 5 is really good. I do get weird looks when I'm Listening to ska as well, none of my friends seem to enjoy it

Pretty much everything I listen to is weird to my peers.

For the most part this is true in my case as well.

My wife too, though in her case it's a matter of her growing up in Ecuador and being ten to fifteen years behind and culturally different. She LOVES Air Supply, for instance. Thankfully, she only listens to it on headphones and refused my offer to take her to see them when they played Tacoma.... She's a keeper. :smug:
