Guitar Center fail - but with a twist

A couple weeks ago I went to a local Guitar Center, headed to the bass section and plugged into the Markbass Ninja 122 that I was interested. Barely got two notes out and was asked to stop playing. But - it wasn't by an employee. Someone was videoing their sister trying to play a scale on a bass and apparently my shopping was interrupting their video shoot. My initial reaction was not what I wanted to say, so I just walked away which was probably a wise choice. I went back later, but at that point I really wasn't in the mood to buy anything.

Anyways, that was something new for me. Someone claiming the entire bass area as their own so they can video someone playing. Maybe I'm getting old.

How long does it take to play a scale? "do re mi fa so la ti do" okay, done, video over, move along, my turn.
Its just the selfie generation. Everyone on youtube needs to watch my sister play a scale mentality.

Very interesting on how the various responses to this situation. You get everything from complete jerks, to sympathetic, to reasonable. I see a lot of selfish, generous, confrontational, non confrontational. Having an old minor in psychology, I find this intriguing.

That's assuming that all responses are truthful and genuine. But this is the TB crowd , and it's a safe bet that many of these responses are sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek, or meant to be humorous. There are also some overtly sensitive individuals who take these responses far too seriously.

But really? I' surprised at some of these reactions. What is it going to hurt for you to just give them a few minutes.
Where has consideration for others gone in today's world? You're not special. You're not unique. You're just another one of billions trying to get by in the world. If you can't get at least a sliver of joy from helping another human being, you have a problem.

I agree. Encouraging young people who actually want to PLAY music is a great thing IMHO. Us "musicians" are in this boat together and I'd much prefer her thinking that we are an overall nice, supportive bunch than a bunch of selfish arses.

So what's the common courtesy rule when you get that one guy in the bass section that sits and plays loudly for an extremely long time, but you want to try out an amp/bass?

I would go over, snatch the bass out of her hands, then say: record this, this its how its done!!
Then I would lay down a bombastic slapsolo

Just ask them to turn down. I think my favorite was a kid that was playing a slap lick super loud and then he would stop and look around, fishing for compliments or comments of any kind. Repeat, over and over and over.

I think you have been on TB long enough to know that a lot of these crochety old grumps are not troll accounts, they are honest-to-god crochety old grumps. I am not even surprised by the responses in this thread at this point including the guy who asked if the girl was hot...

For the record, I cannot believe this is even a discussion. As if it would really kill somebody to wait a couple minutes while somebody did a recording. Have you really never had to wait in GC due to somebody else before? I am pretty sure if you have been to a guitar shop ten times you have waited, at least once, for somebody to stop playing something at an obnoxious volume.

That would be a very short thread. Although I swear the girl that worked on Pawn Stars and was fired because she was a former Suicide Girl worked the front desk briefly at the Towson Guitar Center. And she was from Maryland, so maybe it was her.
