Wow, so today I go in, and I see what I have seen the past couple times, a '76 VINTAGE P bass, on the lowest level of hangers. Wow. Can they be this stupid? I also saw this one kid grab a bass and go to the guitar amps and plug it in. Sad day, my friends, sad day.
Oh wow...That is terrible, whenever I go, there aren't any other bassists so i'm usually all by lonesome!
Wish mine was like that, however when people start playing a really nice bass through an SVT with just no understanding how to play a bass i just walk in, grab a Jazz bass and let it rip, ir usually makes them stop playing.
Maybe they want to move it quickly. Low hanger = more people picking it up and trying it. As for the kid plugging it in to a guitar amp, well, I wouldn't buy any guitar amps from that GC!
I try to do that to, but it usually ends with bouts of laughter... hahaha One time I went, and there was a kid and his dad shopping for a bass. Kid was a little jerk, yelling at his dad, "No you're going to buy me this one!" as he points out a highend warwick.... So he pulls one down, plugs it in, begins to play, and the most awful buzzy playing begins to come out of that ampeg. That little kid did not deserve that bass....I think he got though.
Yeah I have had a lot of people ask me about my playing I just say practice hard and have fun Haha well I havent got that, i usually just get compliments, some guy showed his whole family my playing Oh boy i know what you mean, and they try to play those metallica riffs over and over....ugh i hate it

Bah...does it hurt you or prevent you from doing what you need to do? I was hoping your story had a point to it, but I see it didn't. I hope these little kids you guys are goofing on grow up to be rock stars and they don't let you backstage

heheheh I play metallica riffs, but not over and over and over and they are usually in time. And infact I got complimented when i play too so, yah. I am 16 (just a kid) but i do know what i am playing and know what i'm doing. Albeit I'm not that kid who just goes in to play for the sake of playing, I try basses that I want to learn about and figure out, not loud either usually the salesman puts it louder then I want . Lets be honest all of us do it time to time.
Or 20... Or 30... 70s Fenders are the biggest example of "vintage craze" in my mind. All of a sudden a year becomes worth more than the instrument itself. My uncle sold a total hunk-o-junk 70s jazz for $2500.
There must be some pretty bad guitar centers out there. I know I can always go to mine and play everything from fender, to ibanez, to warwick, to modulus, to EBMM, and every budget brand in between. I also live 15 minutes away from bass central, so I guess I'm a little spoiled... But they offer a great testing ground to try and figure out what you like. If you don't like it there, don't go, but we really don't need another "I hate GC!" thread. Though I can't stand the customers sometimes. The people who go in there and start shredding thinking they're something special. It seems so many middle-aged men come in and start slapping it up like they're Flea or someone... And I just wanna go up to them and be like "Really, do you ever actually get to play bass like that in a real live context?" I just go in and lay down my simple and rootsy stuff that I always groove to. No need to try and impress anyone at GC...
Speaking of GC... Chicago Mikes list of places to avoid ( names have been changed to protect the guilty ) 1. Crap Center 2. Scam Ass 3. Musicians Fiend 4. Mcpoopietles 5. Booger-Sling 6. Rent-A-Crap 7. E-Gay 8. Kingston Mines! 9. GayPal 10. White Spackle ( you know why they call them sliders dont you? ) Notice: Some names have a word that is sometimes used as a derrogatory word, in these instances it is not used to insult a lifestyle, but to insult a major crapola company.
Alright here comes a GC employee... i should not put my neck out there but.. Anyways, I'm very sad the Bass corner never gets attention! I know your pain but the guitar guys just don't pay attention to the bass room :/ We have a relic 1959 Pbass that is on the lower hanger but there's only two tiers anyways... Btw, we have a great sale tomorrow And I believe the hate towards GC isn't fully justified. Sometimes we really want to help ya out but we also don't wanna get fired ;P I do agree with the "I hate when the salesperson doesn't know what they're talking about." If you come up to me in accessories and ask a question i don't know, at least i'm honest and tell you i have no idea
