Guitar Paint Guys unresponsive and unprofessional

Update.... after a couple posts on some guitar builder forums on Facebook, I got a response on my guitar. I should have it back in a week or so. Looks pretty good from here.

Aw man, wish i read this before sending a telebass to them, recieved an e mail on the 15th stating they got the body, i preped it for painting, stripped, sanded so I am hoping it's only month to get it, and at the same time I purchased a double pickup tele 51 body from Guitat Mill , see which one gets here 1st

I am approaching the 8-month mark while waiting for my order from GuitarPaintGuys. When I placed the order, the confirmation email said the wait would be "3 to 6+ months." So, I knew it would likely take awhile, but it's still frustrating that the process is so slow. After 4 months, I emailed to ask if I could expect the order in the next few months, or if it would be longer than that. I got a response 3 days later that it had been sanded and the base coats applied.

Over two months later, I saw a photo of my project on their Facebook page. Three weeks after seeing the Facebook photo, I emailed again to see if it was almost ready to ship. I got a response 2 days later stating that it was getting the top coat applied. It's now been over two weeks since that last update, but no shipment yet.

I do appreciate that they wrote back to both of my emails within 2-3 days with updates. It seems like they are trying to be more responsive to inquiries. However, they also deleted some of my comments on their social media channels, which I think is ridiculous. I was not complaining or being critical. In fact, I wasn't even addressing GuitarPaintGuys at all. Another person and I were commenting back and forth, talking about what we ordered and how long we've each been waiting. The tone was actually quite positive, with each of us saying how good their finishing work appears to be and talking about how excited we were to get our painted bodies back. Within an hour of posting our comments, they had all been deleted for some reason. I guess they didn't like customers having an open conversation about the current wait times for all to see...

Their prices are excellent, and they offer a ton of cool and unique finish options. I just think they need to be more honest and upfront with customers about how long it's going to take. Claiming it will take as little as 3-6 months is essentially false advertising if the reality is more like 9-12 months. They get defensive online about how busy they are, but maybe their queue wouldn't be so long if people knew the accurate wait times.

Yeah took some time Aug 2022 to April 23 sounds about right - Guitar Mill also took about that long too, came out pretty ! I am still waiting on 2 more body's from another finisher since September 22, but my guy local did a job in 2 weeks............go figure- was about 150 more than the GPG.

Guitar Mill took over 7 months about 380 bucks and not a big fan on the finish hardness paint seems very soft ..........have the bass on the rack and leaving it alone for the next 2 moths to see if the finish cures some more

Posting here in case anyone comes across this while searching. After just shy of a year from the time I shipped my guitar, I still haven't heard a peep from them. I've emailed a few times with no response. Prices have also increased. At this point, I'm just short of labeling this as a fraud.

Thy did a good job on mine, but the pickup cavities were full of paint and had to be scraped out.

The communication was terrible, and they could do so much better here with honesty.

Because of the terrible communication and unprofessional attitude, I would strongly recommend against using them.

Very much mirrored my experiences. Lots of cleanup before reassembly, especially with a heavy flake finish, which can be brittle. They have done three for me, ultimately happy with all three but I don't think I could go back for a fourth which is too bad because they do quite good work overall, and seem to be nice folks. They are pretty active on their company Facebook page and the Facebook "Electric Guitar Paint Stain And Finishing Group" .

Saw this come across the GPG FaceBook page a few days ago. Looks like they are still struggling with workload, communication and staffing. A shame really because I do like them and they do fantastic work. I would love to do more projects with them but it's just not practical. Not that they would miss me. Hope they land on their feet.

I appreciate the hyperbole. It's a ver annoying operation. I forgot how long it took me to get my bass back but it did take about that long.

I actually commend you for formally going after them, especially the discovery part. Should be interesting. They don't need to be in business with this kind of service. It's very amusing they don't send updates because they "are busy working on your guitar".

As a person who works for myself, and is perpetually behind, I sympathize with them, but they should'n promise stuff they know they will not deliver.

Looking for refin options online I've came across this and I did send them many bass bodies in the past happy with the results but the last one I've sent took two years and two months to receive the bass body back. It was also a rare bass so I considered it a loss but miraculously it made it's way back to me. I'm not taking my chances again.

They actually stopped taking on any new business a few months ago to try to catch up. Not sure where things stand today.
