Guitar pickups in a bass?

I enjoyed the read, and oddly enough I was eyeing the same bridge, but black, to mod one of my Samick shorties. Any issues with it?

It is a really great bridge for the money, if you like narrower bridge spacing than "Fender Standard." No issues at all. I also have one on my short scale bass I take to Mexico with my band, and it also performed flawlessly. The only item: it has grooves in the plate for the height adjustment screws. So be careful how you mount the bridge so that you don't get it too far back for the G string or too far forward for the E string. Even at that, you might have to trim the intonation adjustment screw and spring for the E string in order to get the saddle back far enough, depending on what strings you use.

I've got almost 50 years of experience with guitar pickup on a bass. Sounds great! Of course, this depends on which pickups in particular you are (were, given how old this thread is) considering.

I’m looking for something similar, J pickup (bridge) for vintage modified jaguar short scale in piccolo tuning, I’m using distortion, any recommendations? I’m currently using a Dimarzio ultra jazz dp148 but I’m looking for a more guitar-like tone.

DiMarzio UltraJazz are supposed to be a pretty bright pickup, right? I’ve never used one, but that’s what I’ve read.

What strings are you using? What speaker cabinet?

My Yamaha Attitude Custom has a guitar humbucker at the neck position, and it produces a huge amount of bass.

How about something like a Dimarzio Blaze middle? You could paint the pole pieces with black nail polish or put it under a J cover that has covered pole pieces if the aesthetics are important to you.
