Hope all is well in your neck of the tone-woods. (Wishful thinking). I just scored an AC33 battery-powered acoustic (slash vox) combo amp.

This thing, in a nutshell, is bloody magic
(I'm in the honeymoon phase)

It's as-light-as-a-feather. (Get a good look at one, being put through its paces, here.)

Well. Haven't we come a long way

This is my first ever dedicated acoustic combo. I'm really impressed. Early days, I suppose, but I think that's a safe bet — I'm just the other side of firing it up, doing a good vox trial.

With a C1000, it didn't skip a beat. I'm guessing that any goodly mike will suit this contraption, depending. (Condensers will need phantom power.) And it gets pretty bloody loud too, for such a low-powered lightweight. I don't normally amplify acoustics so I'm in for a bumpy ride The campfire becomes electric

One of my acoustics has an LR Baggs under-saddle gizmo, matched with an old paracoustic DI — the model without an xlr out — hard to find these days; one of the historys has an active setup (I have no idea how it works but it's a goer, takes a 9v, no controls), and one, an old EKO ranger XII electra, could easily be loads of fun here, both channels in the game, forever the optimist The rest will need to be miked but none are going to miss out here I'm pretty bloody stoked — the vox truly shines. Augers well

There's a blessed phrase looper onboard too. Oh dear …

I'm pretty certain all of those circuits will be viable — haven't tested it yet. Everything else is functioning seamlessly. It takes AA batteries, and the rechargeable variety (NiMH) fit the bill; there was no power-supply in the box so I'm lacking one at this stage (one already on-the-wing).

No matter. I managed to scrape up eight for this initial trial — had to raid a remote to get me over the line (getting some chuckles as a result, "Nothing works.") not a big consumer of batteries, despite their ubiquity (That'll change, no doubt.) — and I've just landed a whizz-bang double foot-switch, still unboxed, to complete the picture.

There are some new batteries on the way too which will be dedicated to this unit. And, because you get a couple of hours easy out of one charge, they'll likely be all I'll need, for the time being. (There's also a lithium alternative, nice and pricey.) It's stereo, reverb, and with the legendary roland chorus also in play; has stereo out, aux in, so the potential noise is not insignificant (I also have a battery-driven PA, among other things). This is gonna be fun. Recommended.

Is it cool to talk amps here? Or do we have another thread?

I just took a part time teaching gig at a local school and they’ve got quite a few entry level modeling amps … the fenders in the lesson rooms and little katana types in the rehearsal rooms.

Gotta say I’m liking the katana crunch and relative ease of use.

I have an opportunity to try out a coupla used but late model blues jr’s next week and would love one of those and a coupla choice analog pedals like a compressor, OD, maybe a spatial thing.

Or…

Should I stay away from potentially costly tube amps and go with something like the Boss Nextone … which has all the basic ingredients I’d need for the occasional recital, concert, faculty band performance.

Blues Jr's are great. As long as it doesn't get bashed around, the tubes should last years. And if you do need to replace them, it's easy and you can get a matched set from Tube Depot for $50.

If you can swing the coin, check out a Swart STR-Tremolo, or some other of Michael's superb amps. I used to own a STR-Tremolo, which is now in the hands of a friend of mine (a much better guitarist than me).

Swart seems to be the cream of the crop of small amps. I'd love to snag one if I had the extra coin.

I have a nice Carr Rambler 210 amp, which is great at low volume and medium stuff.

Another "real" 7ender. This one is relevant site-wide. It's a bass, obviously. There's a looooong story with this one. If someone really wants to hear it, I'll type it all out (or make an .mp3 file). Suffice it to say: It's all original except for three parts which NEEDED to be replaced (the nut,m a pot and, unfortunately, the bridge).

Today's entry is a purchase with which I am VERY unhappy and I can't seem to get anyone to pay 1/6th what I paid for it (and it's only left the house, twice).

I bought it sight unseen (pre-order) it was supposed to be purple. It ain't.

To top it all off, I DETEST the neck pick-up (I guess it must be every P90[ish] pick-up ever made that I don't like).

Mine was used and at a good price. Great all around amp. I'd like to get a small Soldano and an Amplified Nation (Dumble clone) some day. Very happy and content with what I have now from Carr.

A few jazzier guitars here peeking out from behind some hardware of the drumming kind. Old photo this one, but the red one hasn't budged — fgn neo-classic, dreamy tele vibe, tough-as-nails, easy peasy and whenever you pleasey; the other two I'll need to go fetch. The blonde's the endearing and refined johnny smith-like contraption of phrase and fable, the acoustic, almost totally obscured on the left, is the 00. They'll get a workout soon enough.

Still having new-amp-day delirium, with the wee roland, but I discovered that, if I want both effects and looper in play, I actually need another double foot-switch. (Not very observant.) Went on the hunt, found a good shop in Japan soon enough — problem solved, with any luck, free economy shipping this time 'round so I'm saving a penny or two.

May take a week or so, I'm thinking. She may be incomplete but she's chock-full of AAs, not a care in the world, cranking, and she's wearing her dancing shoes, not to be sneezed at. I wish I could say the same.

Nah. It's a Schecter and when it's in your hand, it's actually way more pink than purple.

Yay! This is absolutely the last instrument I have to show y'all (until I get my five string, next month )

I have to tell y'all this story:

This guitar taught me (once and for all) to stop being such a snob. I saw it in my local used shop and rarely gave it a second thought (except to scoff and make some nasty comment).

Then, the store got annihilated by a tornado. They were closed down for another year.

When they opened up, I went in, looking for a telecaster "My" salesman wrote my name on a list and said he'd give me a call when what I was looking for rolled in.

A couple of months later, he called and I went a-runnin'. I trusted him so, I walked (I could do that, back then) in, took the guitar from him, paid my money and went home.

When I got home, I noticed there were two inlay (dots) missing from the fingerboard and a couple of chunks take out of it. If I knew how to write 51, 6, and 500 in Roman numerals, I'd have been LI VI D.​

So, I went back down and talked to the owner (I was too miffed to talk to the salesman) and they wanted to write me a check. It was the same day! They still had the cash I'd given them, earlier, but they were adamant.

So, I said: "Fine. I'll take my money in gear" and I started going around the store. Finally, they only owed me about $20 more than this guitar wound up costing me.

I plugged it in and it was MAGICAL. "Cheapy" pick-ups actually made by the company which made the guitar, but they were fantastic! This thing sounds better than my "rare" Epiphone "Goth" V.

This morning I went ahead and purchased a Marshall OR212A vertical cab when I saw that Sweetwater had it on sale below $400 after tax. This kills three birds with one stone for me. I get a better cab for the limited space I work with, amp is raised higher off the ground, and more headroom.

This is also motivation for me to get off my ass and finally move that 87lb 215 bass cab I was once using because the Marshall cab will be placed right where that 215 currently sits. The 80w 212 Peavey cab will eventually go as well but only after I verify there are no issues upon delivery.
