Guitar Pots From Real Electronics Suppliers

This is the exact pot I'm trying to replace, preferably with one of better quality.

It's a standard pot on possibly over million Cor-Tek contract basses/guitars, but it's not a particularly durable, with a fragile and pretty iffy inner wiper. It's about a $0.70 pot. which I've seen specialty guitar parts sell for $6.

I'd also like to find the D-taper versions.

Have a look at the Bourns PDB18 series at Mouser - they are 16.5 mm body diameter with various shaft ends available.

Mouser also doesn't have any reverse audio taper or long-shaft pots (or very few values available anyway). So they're great for non-stacked, J-plate-mounted, audio or linear taper pots.

Freaky pots are hard to get. I'm going to be carrying some MEC parts soon. They actually have a concentric-dual/single gang pot with push pull!

Eh? I get them in 3-4 days...oh, you need dual reverse-taper with a 3PDT pull switch.

The industry standard (read: high volume) products boil down to this:

1) single/dual section
2) audio or linear taper
3) optional switch, usually SPST or maybe DPST/SPDT
4) PC/lug connection

Beyond this, it often seems a custom part is needed. Contact a distributor or manufacturer directly if the regular distributors' parts are not what you need. There are parts not listed in the catalog that a distributor has/can get for you. See what a short run of something exactly to your spec will cost if that fails. If that costs too much, look around on the surplus wholesaler market. You may be able to find a lot that suits your needs cheaply. Some instrument manufacturers will also sell you singles or small quantities of their custom parts at a decent price.

Right, as long as you are not mounting through the wood body (i.e. you're mounting through thin material like a pickguard or control plate), and you don't want to stack any controls, and you don't need any reverse taper, then Mouser has everything you need.

The only instruments where I've had to use longer pots is LP's. Anything with a carved top like that will probably need the longer pot. None of my Ibby's, Aria's or SG's needed anything other than standard pots.

No, I meant to locate exotic pots without having to do a custom order, which requires a large quantity.. if you can even get them.

Yeah, that's much tougher. I suspect it would be easier if you had contacts in, say, Korea or China. A lot of that production never gets out of country as it gets built into units they ship out.

I do get parts from both of those countries. I'm sure I could enquire.
