Guitar strap

Greetings -

I am on the prowl for a vintage Music Man guitar strap from the early 80's. The material was woven, not leather, approximately 4 inches wide. An unfortunate incident while moving in 2018 ended up with mine of 37 years on it's way to an eastern Washington land fill.

I know there was a thread here regarding this style strap some time ago, but it was sold. Mine was black, but at this point I don't care what color it is. Pink? I'll take it!

That strap was the most comfortable strap I have ever owned. I have even reached out to a strap manufacturer, but no luck reproducing it.

I will pay handsomely, but I won't get hosed either.

Sorry, no. Too narrow to start with. But thanks for responding.

I found a TB thread from quite a while back. The weave was looser than corduroy. It let your shoulder breathe.

I wear my Alembic bass up high, so I ditched the adjustable strap.

Great strap - I used an off-white one for years.

Hi Ursula, you might try Franklin Straps website. @Morrighan has an affinity for those types of straps, too, although I think hers is wider than yours (4 inches). She said she found a similar one to hers from Franklin althought it's disco'd now, and they do have some similar looking straps. I don't know how wide they are, but maybe they could do a custom job for you?

Thanks, but I am not looking for a leather strap. I have a very nice one brand new, still in the bag it came in. The Music Man strap was woven from fabric. I refer you to the photographs I posted.

The discontinued Franklin at left is from horses' cinch material and is nearly identical to my 41 year old Music Man strap. The Franklin at right is saddle blanket material with suede backing and is close in comfort and still in production. I've a 3 inch Levy's fabric strap in black and it is nowhere near as comfortable for me as any of these three. Had to have a black strap somewhere for when need arises, but the Levy's is not my first pick.

I hear you on the black. Other than clear, I really don't like using any other color anymore. But you can turn any of those straps black with some Rit dye :D

I searched forever and could not find one 4" wide, the widest I could find is 3".
This Henry Heller one looks promising, as it has the slotted adjustment similar to the old MusicMan cotton strap. I like the straps with the slotted leather adjustment much more than the buckle type. Though this HH one doesn't have many slots, the piece attached looks long enough to work with.
