Guitar through bass amp?

If you're a bassplayer first, guitar second, what you've got going is fine. But, save up a wee bit of money, and get a Fender Blues Jr when you can. Nice guitar tone, pretty inexpensive considering what you get: 15 watts all tube through a 12" spkr. Very nice for the bass player who "dabbles" on guitar.

I'm thinking about buying a guitar, ...

Are there any long term negative effects from playing a guitar through a bass amp?

Any help appreciated

That's how I play my guitars on Sundays. I'm the bass player; when I pick up my guitar I just switch it into the amp through the Boss footswitch. This might sound funny to some (and sacrilege to guitar players) but the audience can't tell what amp my guitar is playing through.

I played with a guitarist once who ran through an old Ampeg B-15 tube amp. The amp did have some sort of 'frequency' knob to change from bass to guitar (anyone know what I'm talking about?) but B-15's are most definitely bass amps. Sounded great...not a lot of highs but it actually overall probably sounded better than a Fender Princeton or some other $125 solidstate.

Play on! its all good. I use a Stratocaster into Eden WT400 and a CXC210 cab. One speaker is full range and another is subwoofer. The previous posters are right on the tweeters though--it can get bad. But if you have a cabinet you are happy with, then you can get something awesome but you will need some drive in the efx chain. plus, if you use octave or other bassy effects then you have plenty of rumble to play with.
