Guitards and Cables.......

So I went with my middle school jazz band to a competition out of state. We drive 2 and a half ours to get there and as soon as we start to get our instruments out, our guitard comes up to me with a really scared face and says, "Got an extra cable?" :eyebrow::rollno: Good news is we borrowed a cable from another band, so all was fine. but man did he scare the crap out of me. Has anyone else had this happen to you/guitard?

My ex-guitard used to always be talking about buying new pickups, pedals, amps, guitars to get "the perfect tone"; you'd think he was an audiophyle the way he went on about it, but he always used cheap, 4mm thick cables with moulded plugs that were all twisted up because he didn't take care of them. That was if he remembered cables at all, of course. Most of the time he borrowed the spare cables I bought with me.

Well at least it's not as bad as your guitard forgetting the ACTUAL GUITAR.

There we were, 10 minutes before we're supposed to go on. Everything was being set up on stage, then he comes up to us, "Uh, dude, I forgot my guitar."

He and a friend hauled ass across town and made it back. Only about 10 minutes after our set was supposed to start. Not too bad, but really? Come on.

HOW DO YOU FORGET YOUR INSTRUMENT?

I can understand forgetting cables, picks or that sort of thing, but your MAIN instrument? How is that even possible?

i always bring extra everything.
batteries, cables, patch cables, electrical tape, screw driver, scissors, allen wrenches... it's all right there if needed.

of course, my guitard has my GOOD speaker cable because his shorted out AT a show, and i happened to have an extra (and opted to give him my nice one) but he can't afford to get a replacement one and give mine back.
*sigh*
stupid economy. (he's been desperately trying to get a job, but to no avail.)

My drummer, a grown man mind you, has forgotten his drum key on more than 1 occasion - to the point that *I* bought a drum key to keep on me for when he forgets! (and I always bring extra cables - you never know when one will go bad!) I've also brought backup guitar strings for the guitarists... same reason.

Happily my two bands are "centrally" organised, so we actually pack our stuff up together. Pretty hard forgetting things if 5 people are thinking about it.

The 2nd guitarist of one of my bands even has a "Service Pack" with him always. Thats one damn handy little trunk which contains everything, starting with extra cables, some handy tools (pliers etc.), tape, extra strings, and so on. He even brings extra TUBES for his amp! I call that prepared! :D

ok, I was going to make a separate post, but this one seems appropriate. The guitarist arrived at practice last week without his guitar. I can see forgetting a cable, strap, capo, but not your guitar. How do you forget your guitar?

Luckily, he only lives 15 minutes away. But to make matters worse...while he's getting situated the rest of the band is discussing the set list. Once ready he says "less talk, more rock. We're short on time." I was a tad bit frustrated.

I didn't see Hector G's post before posting mine. So apparently it's not as uncommon as I thought it was.

I was playing for my school's concert band. We are, to quote the conductor, "The sort of group that I would trust to play a gig without looking at the music for a month", supposedly we were smart. Three pieces before her part, our piccolo/flute player realizes she forgot her piccolo in the school music room. No problem, she sends me to run down the hall and get it (I'm only part of senior band, she's in both junior and senior and she was playing the entire concert, and our other bassist was only in junior, so I'm the one chosen to be the runner). I tear up our music room searching for the damn thing. Didn't find it. Barely made it back before my band plays. She simply sight-reads the flute part.

The next day, we found out she forgot it at home.

The worst part? It was a piccolo. Who the heck actually WANTS a piccolo?

I'm mildly OCD so I never forget anything...ever. Every cable, adapter, tuner, anything goes back in its own little place and in then all the bits stay together.
I did have a time where the guitarist brought a bass though.
