Guitarist Looking for good first bass

Fellas,
I'm a guittarist looking to pick up my first bass for recording/noodling at home.

my 2 options right now are:

BC Rich Mockingbird Heritage Classic Electric Bass GuitarNeck Through Construction
Eastern Maho Body
Rosewood Stringers and AAA quilted maple veneer top

and the

Traben Bass Greg Weeks Chaos 4 String Body: Basswood
Bridge: Chaos Internal Bridge™
Construction: Bolt-on neck
Fretboard: Rosewood fingerboard
Inlays: N/A
Scale: 34" four string
Electronics: Aguilar® amplification obp-3 pre-amp
Controls: Three-band equalizer with volume and three-way switch
Pickups: Rockfield Humbuckers
Nut: Chrome plated brass

I'd like to be able to plan Clutch type stuff and metal.
maybe some funk, jsut because it sounds cool on bass.

Between the two, I would go with the Traben. The Aguilar preamp is VERY nice, and I also believe with the humbuckers you will have more flexibility than with 2 p's. Being a guitarist, you may also want to look into a 'short' 30" scale if you can find one. This way the reach of your fingers will be closer to the 25" scale length you are accustomed to with your guitar.

Thanks for the info, the Aguilar was a big plus, just wish the Traben was a neck thru.
Not that a bolt-on is a huge deal.

Please do yourself a service by looking into a used peavey foundation bass. Make sure it has super ferrite pickups and you are set. Best jazz bass copy for a little $ that I can think of. Get one and thank me later!

Just looking at those 2 for now because I can get them at cost through a dealer friend.
