Put your Windows XP CD in, and run the Restore/Repair setup, it will fix your issues.

Windows repairs leaves you with ghost installed files everywhere and unneeded registry entries but whatever you say :)

As you are now discovering, Morf gave you the correct answer. The Windows repair utility is as useful as screen doors on a submarine.

After booting from the Windows disk, instead of choosing the repair console, press enter to install Windows, then F8 to accept the EULA. If you have a repairable installation, you will be given that choice at the next window.
