Gypsy Jazz Selmer Maccaferi-Style Basses

They are Gypsy Jazz Guitar (Maccaferi styled) acoustic basses. I was wondering if anyone on this forum had any dealings with either of these two luthiers, and how they felt about their results.

Also, if anyone on this forum has seen similar models of bass by other companies too!

I am very interested in finding more basses in this style.

I like the use of the Manzer Wedge, however, these bodies are quite small (partly due to the MW) to have any real significant unplugged volume if playing with other instruments unless you use an amp.

I just finished building this and thought I'd show it off. Twenty-one inch scale, Selmer shaped body, Pahoehoe strings, Shadow pick-up, Hip-Shot tuners, Sitca Spruce top, curly maple back, sides, and neck.

It's just a guess of course, but the larger body seems to make it two or three times as loud as a U-bass - enough acoustic volume to keep up with other acoustic string players.

Like my U-Bass, I can get something very close to an upright sound when plugged in.

There is a new string on the horizon, however, that looks promising: Aquila’s Red Series strings for the Shortbass in both 23.62 inch, and 26.37 inch scale lengths. If these strings pan out, and some good luthiers get on the stick, it means that Gypsy jazz bass players could now have what would amount to a Selmer/Maccaferri type guitar, strung up like a bass, sounding like an upright, and looking very much at home in a Gypsy jazz band.

bumping a very old thread.

I just got am eastman selmer style guitar. I really love it.

I don't specifically play that style of music at all. I just needed a loud acoustic guitar and got a good deal on this one.

are there any basses in this style around? flat top, generally a longer scale, tailpiece with a floating bridge design.

I'd love a bass like this, I think.
