H/P 2000 bass?

Hi there, i was at our local pawn shop today searching around for a p-bass and came across a beautiful bass called the H/P 2000. it was made in the USA, and the guys there were saying it was a really nice bass for the price - that H/p was a company that made quality stuff and then just vanished. The guys seemed genuine about it, and they were really nice. I thought I'd check it out online, but i haven't had any luck finding any information. Anybody know about this mystery? The bass i looked at was like a p-bass, except for the head was like a jazz bass. They wanted 295$ for it. Thanks a bunch.!

Ok, I dont know anything about basses really, im new to this. If the head's are the same, im sorry - for some reason i thought that jazz heads were different. anyway i found a bit more about it.. it was manufactured by MCI intertek out of Texas for two or three years only. the bass has a real nice weight to it.

I just got a H/P 2000 bass recently and it's wonderful. It's an old bass so it has some aging to it but it sounds great. It's starting to take over as my main bass instead of my '09 Dean Edge. Mine has a white finish to it but is yellowing due to age. Is it a rosewood, ebony or maple fretboard? :bassist:

Sounds like the bass that I just bought. The company (Grem USA) was around for about two years. Had a bunch of endorsers. Nice high end guitars. Produced at least three basses (their myspace is still on with pictures). They went under in 2009. I know whothe builder/designer of the guitars is but have yet to speak to him about the make up of the guitar and electronics. Good luck finding the information.

I bought one new in 1984 and still use it today. It's not the best bass I've ever owned but it got me through some poor times when it was all I had. For a 26 year old guitar it's doing well, I've only replaced the volume pots because they got too scratchy. I'd probably buy another one if I could find it locally.

Interesting - I'd missed this. MCI was the outfit in Waco, TX, that collaborated with Yamaki in Japan to make the Daions, and also JooDee. I'd guess the H/P 2000 brand was built in Korea to MCI specs after Yamaki went with their own eponymous, mostly domestic label in the early '80s. If anyone knows more, please post.
