hey guys, I’ve recently become interested in picking up an H9 but I’ve got a question or two. For those of you that use it, how easy is it to operate in a live setting in place of multiple pedals? My idea of getting one is to eliminate a lot of my modulation pedals and have the H9 cover that ground. However, it will be used in a live setting and I’ll need to be able to access chorus, tremolo, phaser etc etc on the go. Can you set your presets and then just stomp through them. Like set a chorus setting, reverb, delay, tremolo, and phaser...then just click through those 5 channels? I guess I just really don’t understand how it works and want to make sure I could truly replace multiple pedals in an easy way before dishing out the cash.

Yup that’s exactly it. As long as you don’t need more than one effect at the same time. I use it for all my modulation. I don’t use modulation much so it’s perfect for me.

Do you have the regular version or the max? Don’t wanna shell out the extra cash if I don’t need to. I’m really just looking to replace my chorus, phaser, and tremolo with it. Those sweet pitch shifting delays are always pretty awesome too.

I have the Max. It’s worth it.

Max is totally worth it. But you can always start with the core and then max it out later.

To be able to easily move up/down between presets, you either need a 1-3 button switcher or a simple midi controller like a one control gecko or similar.
Then it makes things much more fun to have an expression pedal hooked up, to change settings within each preset.

The thing with getting the Max is then you can buy any number of used (or new) Cores and once you've registered them with Eventide, they will also – just like your Max – contain every single algo that Eventide makes available for the H9.

I used to have two. I'm down to just my Max right now, will probably get at least one Core again. It's great you can configure the inputs for source instrument – bass, guitar, synth bass, synth lead. So no need for special hardware for each.

Great tip about moving through presets with a small midi pedal, I'll definitely get one for that.

Probably gonna have to bite the bullet and buy one. If I sell off most of my modulation it should cover a large portion of it.

Yep, i have two and both are now max. One i use for all kind of things, controlling it with a 3 button midi box and an expression pedal. Then i have it in pre/post mode, being able to use external pedals either before or after the effects in the h9, loving it. The other, i use first in chain as a simple compressor and eq.
You can hook up both(or three) with midi, and change presets on all with one click just like a big multi effect.
But for me, this worked best.

I felt that the H9 was fairly limited and sold my MAX. Then the HX Stomp came out and that is perfect (for me). I'd encourage you to A/B them if you can. Needs differ, of course.

I am buying in a day or so. I have been playing through a loaner for about 3 weeks now. You really need 2 minimum, well I need 2 minimum. I have been doing extended arco techniques on the double bass (read artistically validated noise). The other day my wife was wondering how I got seagulls, dolphin and whale sounds. If you listen to enough Mark Dresser or the old Hearts of Space radio show . and get crazy on the delays and modulation effects and reverbs and can pop out partials and dual tones and sub harmonics on the strings using the bow, the H9 is fit for that task.

I used the MacOS app and Ableton Live to control the H9. The Behringer MIDI foot pedal FCB1010 is very popular and also works with H9. You have more than just the patch select. It has 2 expression pedals built-in as well.

I have a MAX. Used to have 2, but found that one is enough for me. It is not easy to go through presets and settings from pedal switchesalone. I am using it with a MIDI controller. This way I can program any presets and recall them with ease from the controller. No more scrollin'.

Buy used. That's what I did on reverb.Made an offer that was accepted.

It is not a must to have 2. It's just they do not allow you to chain effects. TC electronics G-System allows that, but the Eventide algos are more sophisticated, plus digital routing comes with price in fidelity and more noise.They have always been more expensive than the equivalent competing product since the beginning. The H9 is actually the discounted way to get access to a lot of their modules.

I use it and other effect modules to create soundscapes and spacy stuff. When you use effects as the main courser rather than just seasoning, it is like a blackhole with no escape. I go in between just amp or no amp , to hooking it to so many modules and triggering samples that it is really just glorified noise.

The Stomp is a lot more difficult to learn to Program and the H9 has am app For both I phone and Android that lets you save settings to your phone and load them if you need them. I have both and the learning curve for the stomp Is steep to say the least.

That being said, if you use modulation sporadically and don’t want to shell out for multiple pedals/want to save some space then it’ll fit the bill fine.

Distortion, reverbs, and delays are primarily what I wouldn’t use it for lol. I like my IE Nimbus for reverb and I dig the Strymon El Capistan for delay. Dirt...I just have tons. So I was really going into this with the mind set of using it and removing a chorus, phaser, and tremolo from my board. Its mostly for space concerns.

I'll be getting what is my, I believe, 5th H9(Should be here tomorrow). I just keep going back and forth on whether I want to program stuff. I finally made up my mind and decided that I do want that flexibility. I was using a MAX and a Core, but I just went with a Max this time. I'm planning on using it for the same thing as you guys, for delays, reverbs, and the rare occasion I want two modulation effects at the same time...

zombie revive but today they are cancelling the core and standard H9's so anyone that has not upgraded their core or standard to a max can do so at a significantly reduced price. I bought a core and 13 algo's over the years (which was not cheap) and eventually planned on getting max but never bothered. Anyway, got on to email today and it worked out it was $40 to upgrade to the full max of 52 algo's! And on top I got the free h9 vst set which is super useful even with just blackhole alone!

To say this is awesome is an understatement it actually worked out to be cheaper to do it this way then buying a max in the end which is cool.

A little sad that the h9 is at max capacity but the reality is that this incredibly high quality pedal does more than my brain can handle or imagine and will never get a complaint out of me. Thanks Eventide..Interesting to see where they go next..they are a company worth keeping an eye on always for sure.
