Someone just tried to hack my TB account.

Can I just say that I am so frustrated by the inability to hit back at these critters, that I find the whole thing somewhat rage inducing.

One of them better hope that I never overhear conversations in public exposing them. I might not be able to control myself.

Am I the only one who feels this frustration?

It would help our TB community thwart hacker efforts if you shared what helped you detect (early) that someone was trying to hack your account, and also the action you took to stop them from doing so.

I received a notification from TB when I logged in to TB that Login had been attempted 2 hours earlier, but failed Password; at a time when I knew that I didn’t try to Log in.

I'm trying to figure out what the benefits would be for some hacker to hack one's account here on TB.

A lot of people re-use the same account names and passwords on different websites because it makes them easier to remember. That is a very bad idea. Imagine that your bank or credit card account shares usernames and passwords with your TB account. Someone is able to figure or guess your TB credentials. Oops, they now have the keys to your kingdom.

Old school here. Still do all banking transactions face to face as I do not trust online banking for reasons you mention.

Hackers have no moral sense. There is no reason to hack stuff and cause problems for other people, much less steal from them in the form of information or money.

I have a mental formula for passwords which uses a different pw for for each site, but has a basic pattern that allows me to recall or re-calculate each pw.

I recently received a series of notes from MS that contained this:

We received your request for a single-use code to use with your Microsoft account.

Your single-use code is: XXXXXX

If you didn't request this code, you can safely ignore this email. Someone else might have typed your email address by mistake.

Thanks,
The Microsoft account team

Evidently someone found my MS email and went fishing for access.

This was one of about a half-dozen identical messages I received. It appears MS sent this, but I'm not 100% sure. I definitely was not going to use any link in such a message.

The action I took was to log into my MS account separately, check and update the password. This is why two-factor authentication exists.
