But JG uses a PedalTrain full of pedals (which would be worthless if you can't get a decent sound without them in the first place)

Yes in general but it also depends on the bass. That single cut 6 string above is fully passive (no batteries) and with the (splitable) bridge pickup in double coil mode it has exactly that gwizdala tone (ok, he uses double coils too ) but when the pickup is in single coil (the upper '60s positioned coil) it does not sound like hadrien's (or gwizdala's) bass at all. A passive bolt on jazz bass with single coils with the bridge pickup soloed can sound pretty close to those guys but it can never have that pronounced mid growl and bottom end (not to mention the sustain). However, split coil hum cancelling J pickups do sound fatter than single coils and (soundwise) are much closer to double coils.

He uses his pedals in pretty specific instances. The most subtle effects he uses are his delays for soloing or loop building. What I mean to say is that they have a pretty minimal effect on his base tone.

Forget about the fingers, you need one of those custom neck-through body coffee table basses with at least one double coil pickup in the bridge position (in wooden cover!) with a figured wood top (which is probably the most important thing of all!).

Playing technique and fairly good bass can yield requested tone.
No need for exotics at all and Fodera is so overrated. Many dumb players believe that sound depends so much on bass guitar itself.

allright so just hearing this video and this just get me oout of mind how those guys can get this tone im just out of idea I've try everything to crazy EQ with any kind of pickup choice , i know its some thing around the bridge pickup but man please some one tell me the trick and it seem like it can get it whit any freaking bass he got a fodera in this clip and it sound like hes old smith ... anyway

I think gwizdala does quite frequently share things on what he does and how he does it.
Also, Matt Garrison's tone has often been discussed and quite well at that.
Since both Gwizdala as well as Feraud seem to be modelling what they do on what he(Garrison) does to some extent and to my ear, reading up on him may well get you somewhere too.

Not to mention the effects which Gwizdala uses at times.

I think an ebony board and a bridge pickup play a big part of their sounds, mid-boost and passive tone roll-off (or high end cut). Other than that it would help to listen to them ... alot. (and learn some of their lines)

They're not dumb if it's the truth. Which it is. Not to say that you need a Fodera, of course, but PLENTY of the tone of a given bass comes from the bass itself. You'll never get a P bass to sound like a jazz no matter how incredible your fingers are.

I don't think Hadrien or Janek sound like Matt Garrison. They certainly come from and are inspired from that school that Matt pioneered, but they def do their own thing. Your post isnt really fair to each of those guys' unique approach. Thats like saying that every bassist with a deep pocket copies AJ, or every killer fretless player copies Jaco. That kind of overgeneralization is a disservice, IMO.
