Hagstrom Concorde? 2-part thread

About a year ago, my old Hagstrom Concorde finally bit the dust. :crying: That thing was beat to hell when I got it in '95, and it only got worse; especially after losing a fight with a BC Rich Warlock. I wasn't there to see what happened ("It just fell over!" :rolleyes: ), but the Hag ended up with a pretty good sized hole in its back! *ouch!*
A shame too. It may have been barely together, but that thing sounded sooooo good!
I just found one on ebay going for around $400; but I don't have the money for it right now. :( Does anyone know how often these turn up for sale; and for how much? I'd love to have one again-especially after seeing this one...

Anyone else lose (for whatever a reason) a bass that you would kill to get back? Well, figuratively anyway...;)

This is actually a Concorde DeLuxe. There were far fewer of these made compared to the standard Concorde.

I owned a beautiful black Concorde DeLuxe a few years ago. When I sold it, I doubled my money. It went for $1k US.

Not to long ago, I owned ten different models of Hagstrom basses. All were in top condition and completely original. Without any doubt, the Concorde DeLuxe was my favourite of the bunch. I've since sold them all, but if I ever buy another Hagstrom bass, it will be a Concorde.

What's the difference between the Concorde and the Concorde deluxe?
Looking again at the pics on that site...mine had dot inlays rather than block, I don't think the binfing around the f holes was there, and it didn't have a quilted maple back; and it looks like this deluxe has gold hardware? Mine was rust colored; was probably plain old chrome.
I bought mine in 1995, right after New Year's from this kid in my class (senior year of HS) for $100. It was pretty beat: the back had the ugliest finish cracks you've ever seen; hardware was all rusted; the tuners barely worked- it would not stay in tune; both ends of the nut were broken off, so the E and G strings had no support on their outside edges; the binding on the neck was peeling off-I just had it taped down with Scotch tape! The pickguard couldn't be installed as the threads in the body were stripped; the body was stuffed full of sponge (I don't know if that was supposed to be there or not...); and it ended up with a pretty big hole in it's back from that Warlock, which I just covered with brown packing tape-never got around to looking into repairs.
But oh man, did that thing sound great!

Here's a USA Haggie site. Read through it - there are one or two guys that specialize in Hagstrom restorations. If your bass is salvageable, this may be the thing to do - why lose a gem? They're only getting harder to find.

That's too bad - it always sucks to have to let a good one go. I've had some Haggie fever lately - I came across and snagged a Coronado IV with Bi-Sonics. Plays great and those pickups are awesome. It's like an EB-O with definition!:D

The Concorde was the basic semi-acoustic 30" scale 335 style body with chrome hardware nothing fancy bass. Dot neck markers, no neck binding, unbound headstock and body F-holes, Hagstrom headstock decal.
Most of them were finished in 3 tone Sunburst or Translucent Red.

While the DeLuxe version was the same basic instrument with the following additional appointments;

- Bound neck and headstock
- Bound body F-holes
- Gold plated hardware
- Block neck inlays
- Raised Gold nameplate on headstock
- Advanced fully adjustable bridge

Hense the name "DeLuxe".

It was available in Translucent Red, Solid Black and Brownburst.

Unfortunately no, I don't; but it did have the neck binding. That's the only similarity to the deluxe as you describe them. I clearly recall it having the neck binding, as that was one of the issues it had-it broke somewhere around the 5th or 6th fret on the E string side and was peeling off the neck. I just taped it down; it worked good enough!:hiding:
Were there any similar Hagstrom models it could have been?

edit: TB member since 1999 vs. this March, and I have you beat in post count? Something's wrong with one of us...(probably me!)
