Hal Leonard bass method... advise?

I really like the Hal Leonard series. I started with book one and have progressed to book two. A lot of book one was review, but sight reading some of the pieces near the end was good practice. Book two goes into different styles and patterns that you can apply to your playing. I've been using the playalong CD to make practice more interesting. I'm going to continue through book three of this series.

I got ed's book 1 starter pack that comes with the DVD. its my first bass book and I am a brand new bass player. the exercises are so great for learning the bass clef! and for gently
building up fingering strength.

the DVD is great. if you've already worked thru book 1 you may not need the DVD. but for just starting out I found it makes it really easy to work thru the exercises by popping in the DVD. just kinda feels like you have a teacher right there with you. book 1 is awesome. I'm totally hooked. I was just poking around to find out where to buy books 2 and 3 and this thread came up on google. I think I may get the pop bass lines as well based on the good recommendations here.

I too wondered about the 3 finger method. does this put me in jeopardy of not building the proper muscle memory for more advanced bass playing? it certainly has made the bass more approachable for my small female hands/carpal tunnel damaged wrists. prior to book one I poked around on youtube and the 4 finger method was my first encounter. it was painful in first position and I just couldn't do it. maybe I start with 3 finger and build up to 4?
