Half rounds? Good compromise for a round wound player?

Can anyone compare the pressure wound to nickel round wound's (Sunbeam's are whatI've been using)

I've never tried Sunbeams but can offer a few words on my impression of pressure wounds vs. DA XL's. Some here find them higher tension but I didn't notice a lot of difference in intonation or action after the switch, so I assume they're not actually too different. Sonically, I'd say they're more fundamental-focused, and perhaps not as rich harmonically as rounds - so moving in the direction of flat wounds but much closer to round than flat. Physically they have tighter wraps but still have ridges and presumably have similar impacts on frets and finger boards to rounds.

Half-rounds are closer to flats in appearance and sound (and kindness to frets/boards). I think GHS Brite Flats are half-rounds. I liked those better than DA half-round but it's been a while. I prefer flats for that end of the spectrum. I hope that's helpful.

Yep. Half-rounds and Ground-wounds are basically two different ways to say the same thing.

I've been working adamantly to get Pressurewounds out from there, since a lot of people think they're the same as half/ground-wounds. That is a big misconception.

Lower tension than the L7200 set? It's sporting a 40 (37.2lb), 54 (36.5lb), 76 (39.3) and 96 (34.2lb) gauge. You could order the first three with Jason at BSO but add a 102 (39.5lb) if you wanted to balance it out a bit.

Thanks for the info. I'd have to work out what the tension in lbs of my current set is, but they might do the job.

For me a comparison point is Thomastik Jazz Flats, and those tensions are much the same apart from for the A string, so that all looks quite reasonable.

Big fan of half rounds and flats. IME one type usually sounds better than the other depending on the particular bass, especially the pickups.
