Our keyboard player is getting one of these to try for the Leslie sound without the big Leslie cabinet to haul. I believe it's originally made to be used with a guitar. Just wondering if anyone had heard one of these Hammond Leslie Pedals and do you think this will work?
My guitar player has one.. they actually sound pretty good... tho' I believe the input levels have a lot to do with how good..
These things sound as good placing a mic on a real Leslie, or a couple of mics if you use stereo. With a Pittman Centerpoint Stereo cabinet it is amazing.
They are superior to the way huge real Leslie cabs and make a wonderful effect ---- but not good on a bass where the directional variation is lost in the low frequency of a bass-anything, especially a bass guitar. I don't think one could actually hear a Leslie used on a bass, certainly that's been my experience.
O.P. here..... Our lady keyboardist's Leslie pedal came in two weeks ago, so we now have three gigs and one rehearsal on it. One word.....WOW! It truly does a "great" job of simulating the old wood cabinet Leslies.
No sir.......thank the Lord! Her (small gigging set-up) keyboards sounded good through her G.K. amp and JBL P.A. cabinet, but now they sound "GREAT"! Big, full, and rich, I can't believe the difference that pedal made in her sound.
I second the Ventilator. The old Motion Sound R143 rack unit is pretty good. For guitar the Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere is very nice.
O.P. here......... I wanted to up-date this post on the Hammond Leslie pedal and "WARN" off anyone thinking of getting one of these. It truly sounds GREAT..........when it works! Functioned perfectly for the first couple of months, then started cutting in and out, a few weeks back it quit mid gig. Our lady keyboardist contacted M.F. and then Hammond. Got nothing but the super run around. She finally got them to "allow" her to send it in to Hammond here in Illinois to take a look at it. That was a couple weeks ago, to my knowledge, haven't heard anything back yet from them. I guess Eden and Ampeg aren't the only company's dropping the ball when it comes to customer service!
My guitar guy has had his on his pedalboard for about a year (or close to it) and it still works fine. He actually kicked it in (by mistake) during a solo at out gig last night.. strange lead, but it worked. Being electronic, there's always the chance that the internals failed.. they DO have a habit of doing that, even with good QC. Bad batch, etc. I bought an SVT7Pro amp that was DOA due to failed electronics... I figured out that it was a dead pre-amp tube and replaced it.
O.P. here.......... Still no word back from Hammond on our keyboard players Leslie pedal.....they've had the pedal for 3 weeks.....
I have an old Fender Vibratone Leslie cabinet. If she's hauling an amp and cab to gigs, try one of these. They're smaller than the Hammonds and sound great. I've used it in my guitar rig for years.
An up-date on this thread. Still no response from Hammond. Word of advice..........avoid Hammond's effect's products. Worst C.S. I've seen.
